Job Summary

The Chief Accounting Officer will be responsible for aiding in the effective management of the full spectrum of accounting and financial management which is described in detail hereunder

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Controlling:

• Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions;
• Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results;
• Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements;
• Coordinating activities of external auditors;
• Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process;
• Managing the budget process;
• Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes;
• Evaluating accounting and internal control systems;
• Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and the supporting database as needed;
• Developing and monitoring business performance metrics;
• Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance; and
• Hiring, training and retaining competent accounting staff.

Accounting:

• Developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures;
• Planning, organizing and coordinating the year-end close process with internal and external auditors;
• Ensuring the successful completion of the company’s tax filings;
• Preparing financial statements, including cash flow statements; and
• Planning, budgeting and authorizing expenditures.

Treasury:

• Establishing and maintaining relationships with commercial bankers, allowing open discussion on terms of available financing;
• Researching and analyzing financing alternatives and providing recommendations;
• Structuring debt arrangements;
• Ensuring debt covenant compliance;
• Directing investments of corporate cash;
• Monitoring operating cash requirements; and
• Communicating the company’s operating and financial performance goals and strategies to external investors and creditors.

Other Duties

• To work to ensure a positive and productive working environment.
• To take responsibility for other duties that falls outside this job description where necessary.
• To assist with maintaining companies house records to meet all legal and statutory requirements.
• To attend all necessary internal and external meetings – producing written and verbal reports with appropriate data to support these meetings

Job Requirements

Education:

• BA or MA degree in Accounting, Accounting and Finance

Experience:

• Minimum of 8 /6 years of relevant experience, of which at least two years is in managerial/supervisory positions

Competency:

• Comprehensive knowledge of microfinance business
• Excellent knowledge of financial accounting, management accounting, treasury management and share administration accounting software application skills
• IFRS application skills
• Comprehensive knowledge of financial management principles and concepts
• Strong company financial policies enforcement discipline
