- Swiss Church Aid/HEKS is the aid organization of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland and has its headquarters in Zurich/Switzerland. Swiss Church Aid/ HEKS works towards a more humane and more equitable world, assisting people and communities to overcome economic, social or humanitarian disparities in order to gain autonomy and to live with dignity both in Switzerland and abroad. Therefore, Swiss Church Aid/ HEKS engage in development cooperation, humanitarian aid and church cooperation and works in more than 30 countries and runs around 200 projects world-wide. Swiss Church Aid/ HEKS is a member of the ACT Alliance.
- In Ethiopia, Swiss Church Aid/ HEKS has country programmes with focus on Natural Resource Management, WASH, Inclusive Markets for Smallholder Pastoralists & Farmers and Humanitarian Assistance for drought and conflict affected communities. The Ethiopia Country Office is recruiting a Livelihood Officer for its Project in Somali Region.
Key areas of responsibilities are:
- Directly responsible the quality implementation of the planned livelihood activities and as per the DIP, agreed project implementation modality /approach and timetable with donor;
- Facilitate the identification and selection process of project target beneficiaries using standard procedures - participatory community wealth ranking method beneficiaries in collaboration with local community and Local government structure.
- Responsible to orientate and brief the selected project target HHs and the local communities have clear understanding on the project purpose, interventions, objectives, their responsibility and expectation, etc.
- Establish and maintain a good rapport with project beneficiaries, as well as local government officials, community leaders and relevant local organizations.
- Facilitate the implementation of planned trainings of the project for target HHs, and project stakeholders with standard quality and agreed project plan with donor.
- Conduct and facilitate training on Agricultural and NRM, Cooperative, IGA, and related topics for beneficiaries in collaboration with the relevant government sector office staff/ expertise’s.
- Develop and prepare operation action plan for community based NRM activities in collaboration with concerned bodies.
- Support technically the mobilization and awareness creation of the target communities on the concepts, approaches and principles of rangeland management in the NRM operational areas.
- Support in identifying appropriate biological and physical conservation measures in the identified communal and closure areas.
- Facilitate and ensure the participation of the communities including the marginalized groups through all possible methods in all aspects of project activities.
- Work to bring about attitudinal changes on the project target households towards business operation and saving practices.
- Participate in assessment /surveys (early warning, baseline data, intervention impact, case studies, etc) and collect and document relevant data to the project.
- Collect and document all progress in the implementation of activities (at activity, output and impact level) and maintain project data, record and documents.
- Produce and submit periodic quality progress reports on livelihood (weekly, Bi-weekly and monthly) per the format to the project coordinator on timely manner (on due date).
- Prepare and share case stories on the livelihood interventions for learning.
- Facilitate and arrange monitoring visits on the livelihood interventions.
- Establish and maintain a good rapport with project beneficiaries, as well as local government officials, community leaders and relevant local organizations.
- Ensure that all cross-cutting issues like accountability, gender, inequality, HIV/AIDS, DRR, are mainstreamed in the implementation of the project activities.
Others
- Adhere to HR policies and procedures such as Code of Conduct, Anti-Fraud policy.
- Perform any other task as assigned by line manager.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Rural development, Agriculture economics and related fields of study with minimum 4 years for BA holders and 6 years for Diploma graduates with relevant and proven experience.
- Practical and proven field experiences in agriculture, NRM and rural development
- Computer Literate
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English. Somali is mandatory.
- Excellent report writing capacity
- Excellent interpersonal communication and skill
- Good staff management experience and capacity
