Job Description
Background and Context
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, the Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children and young people.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those who are at risk of losing it. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community-based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.
We have been providing alternative care for children without adequate parental care for 48 years. When children lose the care of their family, the state authority tries to find the right placement for them, and for the children placed under the care of SOS Families, SOS parents and other care professionals such as foster parents and youth care workers step into the role of the caregiver. Their aim is to ensure that children receive quality care, based on the development of stable and lasting relationships in a caring family environment.
Caregivers need to be able to support the children entrusted to their care in coping with their adverse experiences, realising their rights and developing their potential. To do this, it is crucial to select the most suitable people and build their capacity in the areas of Child and Youth Care and Protection. Hence, the Organization has been facilitating different ongoing learning, development for care professionals which are the key to developing the required skills and capacity and providing quality care and protection for in alternative care.
