Purpose of Post:
As a psychologist you are expected to ensure that Shamida’s child protection policy is implemented, children are safeguarded and are provided with quality psycho-social services. You will also be responsible for working closely with children, community and government stakeholders for provision of effective, efficient and quality psychosocial support both in individual and group therapy techniques to improve the well-being of beneficiaries.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide Psychosocial support (35%)
- To provide psychological counselling, psychologist interventions, support and engagement to individuals and to facilitate/lead group therapeutic activities.
- Develop individualized plans for the future for each child and give the necessary support (both practical and emotional/psycho-social) to enable the child to achieve their goals
- Preparing and conducting different training sessions for the beneficiaries and their parents
- Participate, in collaboration with other staff team members, in running life-skills and any other shelter-based activities
- Keep good, accurate and confidential records of all counselling sessions and make referrals to those who require psychological or psychiatric assessment/treatment
- Incorporate trauma-informed care philosophy, practices and strategies in all activities
Team & Partnership Working (30%)
- Work with the Shamida team to deliver the service and contribute for good team spirit
- Supervise and support the head nanny to ensure quality service delivery at shelter.
- Network, liaise and communicate with potential parents, families and other partners mainly with Kibebe Tsehay Orphanage Center
- Support and provide appropriate recommendation regarding best interest determination (BID) panel to guarantee best interest of the children.
- Organise the Children’s Parliament each month
- Advocate for legal and medical and other referral support services for beneficiaries
Planning and Reporting (25%)
- In collaboration with the project team and stakeholders prepare detail annual and quarters action plan and ensure the implementation.
- Closely work with project manager and stakeholders in the course of project planning and implementation.
- Facilitate and ensure the involvement of children as primary stakeholders in all project work.
- Ensure preparation of timely and quality monthly, quarterly and annual project progress reports.
Respect of confidentiality (10%)
- Strictly respect the confidentiality of data, being the property of the project beneficiaries and Shamida
- Ensure beneficiaries files/ data are properly put and locked
- Comply with Shamida policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedure

Job Requirements
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience for BA and 1 year for MA holders
Education/ Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from a recognized university in psychology or social work
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Be empathetic and have an understanding of the issues surrounding vulnerable children
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Experience in childcare facilities in providing childcare and support to children of all ages;
- Extensive knowledge on UNCRC and ACRWC
- Experience using evidence-based modes of therapy;
- Experience in the areas of protection including GBV, child protection and psychosocial support
- Interested to work under pressure and in harsh environment
- Previous related experience in NGO setup is an advantage
- Excellent interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience and ability to work with children of all ages including teenagers;
- Ability to participate in collective, non-hierarchical decision making within small team and all staff environments;
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member;
- Essential computer literacy (MS word, excel and internet)
- Able to coach and supervise
