Strengthening Rural Value Chain (SRVC)

The project “Strengthening Rural Value Chains in Ethiopia” is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government. It supports the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture to improve the income and employment situation of stakeholders in agricultural value chains in SNNPR (Sidama), Amhara and Oromia regions. The objective of the project is to improve the income and employment situation of stakeholders in agricultural value chains in SNNPR (Sidama), Amhara and Oromia region. 

Contract duration:  Until December 31, 2024

Responsibilities

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for following

  • Ensuring that the provided services within the section are done correctly and on a timely basis according to GIZ Financial and Accounting Guidelines and are in line with the PuR.

In this context, the Accounting Assistant fulfils the following tasks:

Tasks

Core scope of tasks

  • Process the cash payments for the assigned journals according to the GIZ rules and regulations.
  • Ensures the cash boxes are secure and safely kept according to the regulation.
  • Records all cash payments on a timely manner using the WINPACCS cash book software and reconcile on daily basis with the physical cash count.
  • Checks the cash vouchers and receipts submitted for completeness and allocation to cost units and categories, and corrects these where necessary
  • Ensures all supporting documents are provided and vouchers properly validated according to the signature regulations.
  • Ensures the cash vouchers are forwarded on timely basis to Country Office for monthly bookings.
  • Ensure the cash management agreement is updated and adhered to.
  • Reports all problems with financial administration and compliance without delay.

Other duties/additional tasks

  • Prepares the monthly payments report for submission to the Ministry of Revenue.
  • Supports the project in the payments of workshop and/or training allowances.
  • Deputizing for departmental colleagues.
  • Takes up other duties as assigned by the Senior Finance Manager

Job Requirements

Required qualifications, professional experience

Qualifications

  • BA Degree in Accounting or comparable qualification 

 Professional experience

  • At least 3 years of professional working experience in a similar position Experience in GIZ in the relevant subject context
  • Work experience with international organizations
  • Work experience with administrative tasks, travel/event management, or procurement

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Experience with IT-based accounting programs
  • Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication systems
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Good English command. German knowledge is an added advantage
