Accounting Specialist

GIZ-External/Internal Vacancy Announcement #043/2022

Strengthening Rural Value Chain (SRVC)

The project “Strengthening Rural Value Chains in Ethiopia” is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government. It supports the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture to improve the income and employment situation of stakeholders in agricultural value chains in SNNPR (Sidama), Amhara and Oromia regions. The objective of the project is to improve the income and employment situation of stakeholders in agricultural value chains in SNNPR (Sidama), Amhara and Oromia region. 

Contract duration: Until December 31, 2024    

Responsibilities

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for following:

  • Ensuring that the provided services within the section are done correctly and on a timely basis according to GIZ Financial and     Accounting Guidelines and are in line with the PuR.

In this context, the Accounting Specialist fulfils the following tasks:

Core scope of tasks

  • Process the bank payments for the assigned journals according to the GIZ rules and regulations.
  • Records all payments on a timely manner using the WINPACCS bank book software and prepares bank reconciliation statements.
  • Prepares the Funds request for the assigned journals and ensure the FIMO limits are observed.
  • Checks the vouchers and receipts submitted for completeness and allocation to cost units and categories, and corrects these where necessary
  • Ensures all supporting documents are provided and vouchers properly validated according to the signature regulations.
  • Ensures the vouchers are forwarded on timely basis to Country Office for monthly bookings.
  • Follow up on receivables and any outstanding issues as assigned.
  • Support in preparation of the Withholding tax payments, reports and reconciling of the unsettled withholding tax items.
  • Reports all problems with financial administration and compliance without delay

Other duties/additional tasks

  • Procurement of goods and services receivable follow up.
  • Deputizing for departmental colleagues.
  • Takes up other duties as assigned by the Senior Finance Manager

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • BA Degree in Accounting or comparable qualification

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of professional working experience in a similar position

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication systems
  • Experience with IT-based accounting programs
  • Good English command. German knowledge is an added advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
