Job Description

  • Lutheran World Federation World Service Ethiopia is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia. LWF Ethiopia works closely with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), the Ethiopian Government, UN organizations and other funding partners. Its thematic areas include promotion of food security and sustainable livelihood, sustainable natural resources management, emergency preparedness, response and rehabilitation, and capacity building. LWF-ET is in need of hiring qualified professionals to fill the following position:

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position Holder

  • The position is responsible for implementation of livelihoods and capacity building activities. Facilitate exchange of information compilation data and reports, provision of technical training to beneficiaries and local government staffs. In consultation with the project coordinator and other officers such as UNHCR, RRS, woreda stakeholders, review and improve project work plans and activity budget for better response for the need of the project.
  • Responsible for the overall implementation of livelihood and capacity building component of the project,
  • Participate in the baseline, climate risk and other assessments,
  • Design livelihood and capacity building activities for the economic benefit to the communities in targeted intervention refugee camp and kebeles,
  • Responsible to ensuring that the project meets its defined objectives and achieve set of targets for the livelihood and capacity building component,
  • Develop a yearly and monthly detail work plans to implement the major activities of the livelihood and capacity building component in the selected refugee camp and kebeles.
  • Lead assessment process, including planning and reporting to determine livelihood and capacity building needs and address them with the project budget as per the approved work plan,
  • Collect information related to livelihood and capacity building in the project intervention areas,
  • Conduct regular field visits to verify quality of the performances of the livelihood and capacity building component by providing technical guidance and advice,
  • Ensure high quality and innovation in the livelihood and capacity building component of the project.
  • Establish livelihood committees as deemed necessary and carry out community mobilization process.
  • Train the target community and local partners on livelihood and organize experience exchange forums on livelihoods,
  • Identify and promote climate-smart livelihood opportunities,
  • Implement climate-resilient livelihood tools and procedures,
  • Initiate, develop and implement market linkage strategies for the target beneficiaries
  • Develop partnership with relevant stakeholders such as UNHCR, RRS, concerned woreda level stakeholders and engage them in the project with effective use of relevant community based participatory tools,
  • Ensure that the beneficiary capacity building strategies are implemented as part of livelihood interventions
  • Prepare and submit weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual reports to the projects coordinator regularly and on a timely manner;
  • Develop bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly plans on gender and livelihood activities,
  • Follow procedure as outlined in LWF World Service Ethiopia Staff Rules, and other Operation Manuals,
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to him by the Project Coordinator or his designate, 

Job Requirement

Required Qualification and Work Experience:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in rural development, economics, agronomy, plant science or other relevant disciplines from recognized University/College. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience for Bachelor degree and 1 years for Master’s Degree.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of three years relevant experience preferable in gender issues

Additional requirements

  • Strong communication skill in English (written and oral). Excellent written and oral English Language skills,
  • Ability to interact with people
  • Strong knowledge and experience working in livelihoods
  • Deep knowledge in rural communities and livelihood opportunities in the rural areas,
  • Good skills in reporting and monitoring
  • Other job related trainings
  • Previous related experience in NGO and refugee set up is advantageous
