Job Description

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) in collaboration with London School of Hygiene tropical medicine and Addis Ababa University is looking for a competent candidate on Skin health Africa research program (SHARP) as field coordinator to be based at Kālu district, Kombolcha. SHARP focused on Severe Stigmatising Skin Diseases (SSSDs) - mainly leprosy, and cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) which are the major causes of morbidity in the district. There is a great potential to integrate programme activities for different SSSDs as they share common characteristics and handled using shared resources. There also exists the opportunity for synergistic effects of integrating the delivery of interventions targeting case detection, treatment and stigma at a community-level, especially when individuals living with SSSDs are engaged through the social structures which are most relevant to them.

The project has completed formative research using mixed methods approach combining desk reviews, stakeholder workshops, ethnographic and qualitative research, surveys and participatory research methods. Based on the informative results a development of interventions, implement and evaluate as to the feasibility, impact and cost-effectiveness of a comprehensive integrated case finding and management (ICFM).

Main duties and responsibilities;

  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), data collection instruments, and training materials
  • Coordinate interventions and implementation of the project alongside the project coordinator
  • Assist project coordinator with follow-up of the field research-related admin budgets, expenses/realization, and logistics
  • Contribute to analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
  • Ensure effective communication between the multidisplinary SHARP research team and maintaining communication channel with local stakeholders and communities in the study site
  • Coordinate dissemination of findings to policy makers, other stakeholders, and academic audiences
  • Contribute to preparation of journal articles and conference reports
  • Coordinate other related duties as assigned by line managers 

Job Requirements

the competent candidate for the position should fulfil the following criteria:

  • Demonstrable organization and communication skill testified by three referees
  • Should have adequate research experience involving community
  • Should have PhD or MPH/MSc in public health/other health-related fields and have a 4 years’ experience in research/project management experience
  • Should be ready to dedicate 100% of her/his time for the project.
