BACKGROUND                                                                                                                         

The National Data Management Center for health (NDMC), under the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, is a responsible to centrally archive health and health related data; ensure data governance and security; create platforms for data sharing; process and manage data by applying robust data analytic techniques. The center, also synthesizes evidence, and ensure evidence utilization for decision making by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and other relevant stakeholders at local, sub-national and national and international levels. The center is responsible for activities in related to data-sharing, disease surveillance and reporting, integrated data analysis, evidence synthesis, evidence translation, and database development and to serve as a regional and continental information hub. For the effective implementation of these activities, EPHI is looking for high caliber SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH REASERCHER with strong qualification and experience.

OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                        

The objective of this post is to ensure deployment of high caliber SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH REASERCHER, who can technically lead overall health and health related study in line with its intended purposes. Moreover, the post aspires to bring an expert who can contribute something to existing network built with regional and continental partners

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                     

On research leadership 

• Demonstrate research leadership skill locally or internationally;
• Articulate and devise national research strategies, research questions and action plans ;
• Conceptualize a national data management for several research data sources;
• Work with multiple data sources, research agencies, institutes or individuals;
• Work with different data and evidence sources to make sure the health system addresses national targets;
• On research technical skill/advisory 
• Design different types of research programs, research proposals and protocols;
• Conduct and advise in-depth analysis of big epidemiologic data, surveillance data, evaluation data, biomedical data and any health related operational studies;
• Produce policy relevant findings from rigorous systematic reviews, in-depth analysis of studies etc
• Understand local and international research ethics
• Provide substantial contribution in the scientific advisory committee, research technical working groups and others
• Use statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, EPIINFO or R etc for analysing research data.
• On translating evidence to policy
• Identify evidence demands and supplies of the ministry
• Assess the quality of different sources of evidence to facilitate health policy decision
• Coordinate evidence to policy translation forums and dialogues
• Develop evidence use tracking mechanisms at national and regional levels
• Disseminate research findings using different scientific and media outlets 
• On coordination, collaboration and networking
• Create national information revolution platform; research data source collaborators or networks, routine data source collaborators or networks
• Establish research communication and interpersonal communication
• Understand existing health policies, strategies and plans of the country 
• Work independently, supervise different data sources, 
• Lead national and international research conferences
• Negotiate with funding organizations, research institutes and individual researchers 
• Facilitate and assist in mapping, centralizing, digitizing, managing and analyzing existing and new data sources and data’s in the country  

Job Requirements

• PhD in public health/international health and 8 years of work experience or
• MSc in Public health, and 10 years of work experience
• Having background in health sciences, biomedical science

CONTRACT DURATION AND REMUNERATION

• The contract will be for one year with possible extension upon satisfactory performance and the need as of business continuity.

Salary will be based on the qualifications and experience and in accordance with ·    MOFC's contract salary scale.
