Job Description

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

To this end, Armauer Hansen Research Institute planned to recruit energetic and skillful for the position of Junior Procurement Officer (Foreign).

Key Duties and responsibilities

  • Research potential vendors, compare and evaluate offers from suppliers
  • Collate purchase orders and purchase requisitions in order-to-order materials, goods and supplies
  • Implements the AHRI’s procurement policy and fundamental procurement principles.
  • Ensures purchase requests (PR’s) are adequately informative and complete on receipt, advises requesting unit on specifications, prices, availability and other procurement matters as required.
  • Track orders, ensure timely delivery and review quality of purchased products
  • Proactively provides feedbacks for requesting unit/person on urgent PRs as required.
  • Carries out procurements as per the approved budget and purchase requests and procedures.
  • Work closely with the institution clearing agents in providing all the necessary documents for the customs process
  • Arrange and follow up all the pre-import permit from the concerned body, (FMHAC) and etc.

  • Collect the customs duty assessment for the preparation of payment (Budget Letter), and follow up for its payment.
  • Prepare, arrange and submit to the clearing agent the duty payment,
  • Collect the cleared goods from the customs and deliver to the Institution warehouse as per the document (invoice)
  • Make sure all the foreign procurement (donation and purchased) goods are received by the Institution’s warehouse and collect the GRN.
  • Regularly updates the status of the goods arrived at custom and submit the report by reconciling the custom clearance agent (Transit company) status report.
  • Apply online all import permit release and follow up the approval from
  • Prepare budget letter for costumes duty and tax.
  •  Collect cleared goods from costumes
  • Deliver the items for institution warehouse and receive GRN.
  •  Receive AWB from Ethiopian Airlines
  • Prepare a weekly procurement status update
  • Respond to enquiries of customer and suppliers about orders, status and changes

Facilitate bank, insurance and other necessary documents using ESW for customs purpose and handle custom clearance

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree in Procurement & Supply Chain Management/Management and 1 year of direct experience.
