Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

As part of SOS CVE's effort to respond to different emergencies such as drought, flood, conflict etc, which arise from time to time in different parts of the country, the organization has secured funding from the DERF to implement a eighteen months emergency response project in the South Wollo zone of the Amhara region. The project will work to address the food Integrated Emergency health, Nutrition, RMNH, ES/NFI, food security and Livelihood needs of returnee in the South Wollo zone Wadla, Gazo, Angot Woredas of the Amhara region.

We are looking for a Project MERA Officer who will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation system for the effective implementation the project.

Your role....

As a Project MERA Officer, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Supporting project colleagues in designing and implementing a comprehensive M&E plan for the project in line with the Results Based Management (RBM) Policy Support Document.
  • Establishing monitoring and evaluation systems and processes using existing Joining Forces and implementing agency’s tools and mechanisms
  • Supporting project colleagues and partner organizations in the process of developing M&E tools
  • Conducting a rapid child protection impact and needs assessment
  • Supporting the project team in planning and conducting quarter, bi-annual and annual project reviews, as well as organizing reflection and learning meetings with Joining Forces agencies, other CSOs, international organizations and government institutions.
  • Initiating and leading joint program supportive monitoring.
  • Ensuring regular collection and capturing of beneficiary data into the Program Data Base (PDB).
  • Designing and implementing strategies helpful in ensuring meaningful participation of children.
  • Establishing Community based complaints and feedback mechanisms at community level
  • Conducting annual learning workshops at program location and woreda level with Joining Forces agencies to share best practices, approaches and lessons learnt.
  • Identifying, documenting and disseminating best practices, case studies, and learning briefs.
  • Establishing and managing feedback-giving mechanisms.
  • Leading and coordinating project baseline activity
  • Undertaking project ‘Post Distribution Monitoring’ in case of benefit distribution

Must have:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Economics, Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, or other relevant fields

Experience 

  • A minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in managing and executing Monitoring and Evaluation activities for donor-funded projects

Additional Requirements

  • Oral and written fluency in English, and Amharic; 
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team player
  • Excellent understanding of computer applications
  • Demonstrated experience in learning and knowledge sharing related to child protection in emergency approaches
  • Hands-on experience in developing/designing, and implementing monitoring and evaluating system/plan
  • Knowledge on quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and its applications
  • Demonstrated experience in consortium project interventions
  • Have profound analytical and research skill. 
  • Excellent computer knowledge with command on MS Excel, database and SPSS among other packages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication, facilitation and writing skills
  • Time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
