Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

Why we need you

We are looking for a Project Officer, Foster family Care is responsible to work on capacitating and empowering SOS foster care families so that they are able to lead their family. In addition, he/she is responsible to work social, psychological, emotional and moral development of the children and to follow-up, the health matters of the children.

Your role....

While working for as Project Officer, Foster family Care , you will be in charge of the following:

  • Capacitates and/or empowers foster family to empower them to lead their family through facilitating coaching, mentorship, individual guidance, learning dialogues, need based trainings and etc
  • Advises, closely supports and guides foster family on their daily activities.
  • Works together with service deliver institutions such as religious institutions, educational institutions, health institutions to obtain quality services for SOS families and children.
  • Identifies the individual child needs and searches individuals providing guidance and counseling services to them
  • Conducts various continuous assessments and analysis such as SWOT analysis, action researches, and quality improvement assessments to ensure the quality of services delivered at SOS families.
  • Produces, prepares and submits result based monthly, quarterly, biannually and/or annually reports of the section.
  • Advises mothers to take care of hygiene conditions of each family house and the compound at large.
  • Prepares health related educational packages like HIV/AIDS, sex education, etc. and teaches the children and youth by making stratification on age, sex, etc.
  • Advises and assists caregivers in implementing primary health care principles
  • Ensures that children receive medical attention/ first-aid services if they are ill, injured and need medical treatment, refers serious cases to clinics and follows-up referral cases to hospitals.
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned by the program manager Alternative child care and CS.
  • Ensuring that Child Safeguarding measures are in place within his/her area of responsibility and creating save and secured environment for children and young people, including raising awareness, prevention, reporting and responding procedure

The must haves:

Education

  • Degree in Social Work or sociology or similar discipline

Experience

  • 4 years’ relevant work experience in social work, foster care and other fields

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of social work theories, practices and procedures
  • knowledge in the areas of needs assessment, family dynamics, the impact of trauma, psycho-social functioning theories and practices and child protection theories, models and practices.
  • Knowledge of case management, case conferencing and investigation and intervention theories and practices.
  • knowledge of child right and UNCRC
  • .Communication
  • Planning and organizing

  • Report Writing
  • Counselling techniques
  • Computer literacy
  • Proficiency of Local Language
  • Knowledge and understanding of all pertinent legislation and policies.
