We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Business Manager within the Technology function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Detailed Description

  • Reporting to the Chief Technology & IT Officer, the Business Manager's primary role will be to support the Safaricom Ethiopia Technology Director across responsibilities to deliver against goals. The Business Manager must understand the responsibilities, needs and priorities of the director to ensure focus on the most strategically critical demands/deliverables in the Safaricom Ethiopia Technology Group. Responsibilities also include business liaison, decision support, meeting support, governance and managing cross functional projects. The incumbent will be a creative influencer that is delivery focused with a good understanding of the Safaricom Ethiopia Technology playing field. Excellent time management and problem-solving skills is required.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Analyze business information and make recommendations to support Technology Director decision making
  • Strategically manage the director’s time by exercising discretion and decision-making to ensure strategic priorities are met in a timely manner.
  • Responding to routine questions, requests, and refers higher-level managerial requests to the Executives and/or directors, as appropriate.
  • Perform special projects as directed by the Technology Director, including the review, tracking against goals research, summarization, or analysis of information.
  • Working with the Technology Director to strategize and manage a portfolio of relationships
  • Ensure regular and timely flow of information to Technology Director
  • Analyze business processes and recommend and facilitate improvements where required. Continually drive efficiencies and improvements
  • Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the organization at all levels – good understanding of the Technology environment.
  • Critically assess business challenges in Safaricom Ethiopia Technology Group and facilitate cross functional solutions
  • Monitor progress against assigned strategic initiatives and deliverables
  • Consolidate and Report on any deviations that could derail the achievements against targets
  • Ensure on-time delivery of quality information, feedback and reports for Steerco, Exco, Ops Review, Board and other governance meetings. 
  • Ensure budget control for Technology Director’s office
  • Action and follow up on decisions / deliverables from meetings as mandated from time to time
  • Track Technology Director’s performance targets and gather information for reviews
  • Prepare executive summaries and updates on various topics
  • Provide information and briefings for key discussions and negotiations
  • Ensure compliance and good governance across Safaricom Ethiopia Technology group 

Job Requirements

Qualification 

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • A business related Masters Degree will be an advantage
  • Minimum of 6-8 years relevant experience in a Technology environment
  • Managing functional responsibilities at a senior manager level within a Corporate environment
  • 2 years Telecommunications Project management experience will be an advantage
  • Managing / building relationships at Executive level
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions in Technology Business Unit
  • Minimum of 2yrs Leadership/Management experience (essential)
