CLM – Climate Sensitivity Innovation for Land Management
GIZ provides technical assistance to the MoA’s flagship programs in Sustainable Land Management since its inception, at national, regional, and local levels. The new program module “Climate-Sensitive Innovations in Land Management” (CLM) which runs from July 2021 to June 2024 focuses on the capacity development of SLM implementors through policy and institutional development advisory, technical and managerial support, field-level coaching, training, networking, piloting field activities as well as research and communications.
Developing a scalable model for the protection of the Lake Ecosystem is one of the outputs expected from the project. Accordingly, Lake Chamo is selected for pilot testing of innovative approaches and practice through technical and financial development cooperation made with key implementing partner MoA. A thematic advisor will be deployed by the CLM project to steer and advise efforts on value chain development, institutional development, natural resource management, and participatory land-use plan in the Lake Chamo Ecosystem. The project will also deploy consulting firm with its additional staffing on those thematic topics to provide technical advice to the SLM implementation in the lake catchment woredas and zones. The intended development in lake chamo is expected to take two prompt approaches of supporting the implementation of innovative landscape management practices on one hand and initiating change in the attitude of communities and the general public through broader dissemination of knowledge generated on ecosystem safeguarding. In this regard, GIZ CLM is looking for Knowledge Management and Communication Specialist to support and lead the development of communication products and systems, documentation and sharing of knowledge, organizing and facilitating national and ecosystem-level advocacy and mobilization efforts of the CLM project.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Foster organizational learning within the CLM system through systematic and regular dissemination of knowledge products, arrangement of internal exchange visits and conduction of in-house training events for CLM advisors.
- Liaise and coordinate with knowledge management and communication-related service providers, including providing technical inputs, dealing with administrative procedures (e.g. consultants, agencies, photographers, trainers, writers) and undertaking quality assurance of their services;
- Develop, coordinate, support implementation and monitoring of internal and external communications in collaboration with program management and partners
- Contribute to the management of the SLMP knowledge base (website).
- Create and supervise the management of database systems for knowledge products including relevant research findings, photo documentation and project events
- Ensure timely and systematic distribution of knowledge products for up-scaling internally and externally.
- Develop ToR for the recruitment of short-term consultants to document best practices and success stories of the project
- Provide technical support and hands-on training to the partner system at the Lake Chamo in the documentation of lessons learned and communications
- Organize knowledge-sharing events for partners in the lake chamo within the catchment and beyond for them to get a better insight into the management of the Ecosystem
- Develop communications products (print, online, social media, Podcast video and others) in line with GIZ standards
- Participate in and contribute to the GIZ-internal Communications Network.
- Monitor press and media coverage of the Lake Chamo ecosystem management and sector.
- Maintain and further develop the project’s photo/media archive.
- Ensure quality standards for knowledge products including corporate design and corporate wording.
- Contribute to GIZ Ethiopia/Djibouti’s core communication products (e.g., factsheets, website, project location map, stories, etc.);
- Provide support to the partner-owned program’s website.
- Facilitate, organize, and coordinate the development and outreach of promotional items and products for enhanced visibility of results and efforts.
- Organize, facilitate, lead and monitor public advocacy and community mobilization events (campaigns, symposiums, contests, & fairs etc);
- Establish appropriate instruments to facilitate dialogue between different program stakeholder groups and implement regular information exchange.
- Ensure regular distribution and dissemination of relevant information products for enhanced sensitization of ecosystem concepts.
- Perform other tasks as requested by project management.
Job Requirements
Required qualifications, competences, and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, journalism or any other related field;
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position, especially regarding the development of diverse communications products, as well as strategic communication planning, implementation, budgeting and monitoring;
- Proven experience in content development, writing and/or editorial work;
- Experience working in an international & intercultural context/organization;
- Experience supervising production and quality of communication products and tools with external providers;
- Experience in press & press management and monitoring;
- Basic knowledge of design and video editing;
- Experience in working on GIZ projects and familiarity with GIZ’s rules and regulations.
- Basic knowledge of development policy issues;
- Willingness to learn independently and proactively;
- Ability to efficiently use standard IT applications (i.e. MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), communications-related applications (photoshop, communications product design, etc.) and digital media, including modern video conferencing tools;
- Proven ability to write error-free communications materials;
- Excellent knowledge of English and Amharic, written and spoken.
