Background

As part of implementing Influenza and COVID 19 surveillance activities,EPHI would like to announce a vacancy for competent and interested individuals for the following posts. Under the direct supervision and the technical support from the Respiratory Viral Diseases surveillance and response case team the employee will perform laboratoty biosafety activities and sample management following the correct procedures in the specimen collection, transportation and handling of viral samples and strictly adhere to the laboratory and safety protocols.

Roles and responsibilities

• Facilitate the preparation/revision and implementation of biosafety and biosecurity protocols
• Receive authorized and complete requests for viral diseases screening and diagnosis from outbreak and surveillance sites
• Insure the availability of required supplies and recording formats for specimen collection, transportation and handling.
• Support inventory management system of the laboratory
• Organize and disinfect working areas to ensure safety
• Prepare or customize the standard Operating procedure (SOP) for specimen collection, handling, transportation and storage.
• Transport specimens according to respiratory viral/arboviruse specimen transportation guideline.
• Organize and refile sample collection and storage materials supplies as needed
• Conduct item order, inventory management
• Keep records and proper documentation on samples management and lab supplies and equipment
• Support the lab testing team
• Deliver other activities assigned by the team lead and lab coordinator

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory technology and 10 years with relevant work experience or MSc in Microbiology or Laboratory quality management eight years with relevant work experience.
• Able to communicate effectively in all activities involved
• Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
• Previous experience in COVID-19 and Influenza sample collection and sample management is advantageous
