In Ethiopia, Swiss Church Aid/ HEKS has country programmes with focus on Natural Resource Management, WASH, Inclusive Markets for Smallholder Pastoralists & Farmers and Humanitarian Assistance for drought and conflict affected communities. The Ethiopia country office is recruiting Assistant Project Officer for its SHIFT (Sustainable Household in Fragile Terrain) Project in Borana.
Summary
Key areas of responsibilities are:
Project Implementation and reporting
Facilitate the planning, implementation, monitoring, review and evaluation of natural resources management related project activities at kebele level
Work with the customary institutions, project team and government counterparts to achieve the project outputs/outcomes
Ensure adequate consultation and participation of district and kebele level stakeholders in project implementation including monitoring
Facilitate and organize capacity building trainings and workshops for community representatives and stakeholders
Take part in the assessments and surveys of natural resources within the project operational area for project planning and management
Ensure transparent and legitimate beneficiaries selection is conducted at community level
Prepare and develop periodic reports and weekly progress updates in standard and quality manner
Ensure proper recording and documentation of best practices, lessons and success stories
Ensure that the project implemented according to work-plan
Identify and explore opportunities to improve project implementation and guarantee it’s sustainability
Participate in broader Swiss Church Aid/HEKS meetings with other staff
Respecting code of conduct, organizational policies and guidelines
Conduct other duties as may be assigned by the Field Office Coordinator
Job Requirements
Education, Qualifications & other knowledge
BSc in Natural Resources Management, Rangeland Management and other related fields
3 years’ work experience in integrated watershed management and rangeland management projects in lowland pastoralist areas
Experience and understanding of Borana pastoral areas context, livelihoods and culture
Experience of working with local community and customary institutions at grassroots level
Willingness to reside in rural/marginal areas, ability to work with minimum supervision
Very good English and Afan Oromo language skills (written and spoken)
Computer literacy, excellent record keeping and report writing
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Good community level facilitation and coordination skills
Strong sense of integrity and personal commitment to the goals and values of Swiss Church Aid/HEKS
