Sequa gGmbH is a globally operating non-profit development organisation. Since 1991 sequa has carried out programmes and projects of international cooperation in close collaboration with the German private sector. sequa offers know-how and long-term experience in capacity development for chambers and associations (BMOs), vocational education and training, private sector development and trade promotion. The organisation is based in Bonn, Germany. sequa employs more than 100 persons (2021) and reported a turnover of EUR 60m in 2021.

The Project

Implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Special Initiative Jobs (SI Jobs) programme of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is promoting job-creating growth in selected sectors in Ethiopia. SI Jobs targets private sector development for economic clusters in selected geographical areas and promotes sustainable investments that leads to more employment.

The sequa gGmbH implements the SME Grant Scheme in Ethiopia on behalf of the GIZ SI Jobs Scheme. Priority will be provided to the textile and garment industry. To qualify, the SME must be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project not acting as an intermediary and be able to demonstrate proven track record of working in their field of expertise and to have regularly carried out activities in its sector. The overall objective is the Creation of Jobs by investing grants into capacities in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ethiopia. Specifically, the SME Grant Scheme targets an improved market position of SMEs by supporting SMEs along the following five indicators:

  • Increase of the SMEs’ competitiveness by improving product quality and production output.
  • Diversification of products and services offered to the market by innovation, research and development.
  • Strengthen existing markets by strengthening tested distribution chains and market linkages to new clients.
  • Building new market linkages whether national or international
  • Overall financial sustainability by reaching good business conduct, establish sound management process and access to external finances.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

  • to create efficient Production and Quality management system in place in the garment factory and to be competitive on the local and international market.
  • To train the workforce to understand and implement basic Garment quality and production standards in woven and knit operations. After this capacity building training the trainees expected to have essential knowledge and skills of Garment quality and production systems.
  • To develop standard operational procedures for garment production include
  • Operational organization and procedures
  • Time management and ergonomics at working stations
  • Mass production techniques and practices
  • Production Planning and control
  • Quality control and quality management
  • Apparel Cutting Technology
  • Computer Aided Fashion Design CAD

Assignment Period: Approximately 50 days, depending on personal qualification and needs of the companies, implemented within 4 months (01.06.22- 30.09.22)

Job Requirements

Your Qualification / Skills

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in business administration, computer science, information technology or a trade related subject, possibly with a specialization on e-commerce
  • Have excellent communication skill in English.

Your Working Experience

  • Dedicated professional with 5+ years in e-commerce industry
  • 5+ years’ professional experience about trade and logistic regulations relevant to e-commerce and international shipments from Africa to Europe and USA
  • Previous working experience in Africa, preferable in Ethiopia
  • Have good experience in conducting capacity building training

Deliverables

These are the final expected deliverables from the expert consultant:

  • E-commerce strategy prepared and validated by beneficiary SME
  • Provide standard operational procedures (manual), best practices guidance and workflow processes for the e-commerce operations from production to shipment incl. shipping, handling, packaging, catalogue creation, pictures quality, email notifications, payment gateway integrations
  • Report on the implementation of a capacity building program for designers and managers relevant to e-commerce activity of the beneficiary SME
