Lutheran World Federation (LWF/WS – Ethiopia) is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia. LWF is currently looking and invites qualified candidates to apply for the Peace Building Project Officer.
Position Description
The LWF Peace Building Project Officer is responsible for the implementation of the LWF/WS Peace building component of the protection to the conflict affected communities in Chinaksen Woreda of East Hararghe Zone in the Oromia Region and Tuluguled Woredas of Fafan Zone in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. He/she shall be based in Chinaksen Town and will be responsible to the Project Coordinator. The Peace Building Officer shall have the following roles and duties:
Location: Chinaksen Woreda of East Hararghe Zone in the Oromia Region and Tuluguled Woredas of Fafan Zone in the Somali Region
Key Responsibilities
- Provides leadership to the LWF Peace Building component of the above mentioned project in the Chanksen and Tuluguled Woredas and works closely with the two Woredas sector offices to ensure mutual accountability;
- Together with the Project Coordinator, he/she is responsible for the planning, supervision, implementation, monitoring and documentation of the peace building emergency program in accordance with LWF policies, priorities, procedures and guidelines;
- Ensure that all activities related to peace building are timely implemented according to the project implementation plans.
- Facilitate peace-building sessions between the two neighbouring regions (Oromia and Somalia) with religious leaders, government officials and community leaders.
- Conduct/facilitate conflict resolution trainings for government officials, religious leaders, and other cultural leaders in Chinaksen and Tuluguled Woredas.
- Train community leaders, religious leaders and influential persons on inclusiveness and non-discrimination aimed at enhancing cohesiveness and peaceful coexistence in the community.
- Design and disseminate IEC materials to enhance awareness raising on conflict resolution and peaceful coexistence.
- Work together with Protection Officer and other project staffs to organize community meetings for identification of the most appropriate CRM to mitigate complaints that may arise during project beneficiary identification.
- Ensures concept notes and proposals to donors for peace building funding are submitted;
- Ensures the timely, accurate and relevant reports are submitted according to the grant agreements;
- Submits monthly and quarterly reports for internal monitoring of activities;
- Arrange/request procurement of supplies needed for peace building activities
- Ensures all emergency response and humanitarian interventions are undertaken in accordance with the guidelines, policies and procedures of the LWF emergency manual, cluster priorities with specific reference to the Code of Conduct and the HAP and Sphere Project minimum standards;
- Promotes accountability, especially to the disaster affected population, in all emergency responses.
- Ensures that new peace building staffs are provided with thorough orientation to the LWF’s priorities and guiding principles as a humanitarian organization, the field program and the project to which they are assigned;
- Reviews training needs of staff and others involved in peace building. Works with peace other relevant staff to design training content.
- Maintains a close relationship with Woreda Administration and other local government departments with regards to operations, planning and implementation.
- Represent LWF at inter agency meetings on peace building and any bilateral meetings with other peace building agencies fostering good working relationships with these organizations by sharing learning and working closely on activities;
- Fosters and maintains good coordination and collaboration with international and bilateral funding partners, particularly the UN, governments and their agencies, and other international and national NGOs.
- Fulfills any other such duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
Job Requirements
Required Qualification and Work Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Conflict Management & Conflict resolution or relevant field of studies from recognized University/College
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience for Bachelor degree and 3 year for Master’s Degree holder.
Additional requirements

- Other job related trainings
- Previous related experience in NGO set up is advantageous
