Job Description

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Management and Program Implementation

·      With the support from the FOM and country office technical advisors ensure the efficient and effective management and delivery of MNH activities;

·      Monitor the implementation of MNH program interventions in all the implementation woredas, health facility and health post level;

·      Organize and facilitate skill based TOT and cascading trainings in collaboration with RHB

·      Conduct training on evidence-based maternal and newborn health interventions following competency based approaches and provide post-training follow-up and support

·      Provide continuous technical support, mentoring and coaching to the project implementation woredas and health facility staff in implementing evidence based quality MNH service;

·      Participate in integrated supportive supervision visits conducted by the Woreda or zonal health office;

·      Support peer-to-peer mentorship in health facilities to reinforce clinical competency of trainees

·      Work closely to build the overall capacity of woreda health offices and health facilities to enable them successfully implement quality MNH services and sustain project gains

·      Prepare quality and timely activity and financial reports to the Field Office and country office;

·      In collaboration with woreda health offices, assess medical supplies need in the HFs that have been damaged by the conflict

·      Facilitate and follow up on the procurement and distribution of medical supplies to HFs affected by conflict to ensure continuation of MNH service

·      Review/ Assess existing QI system in the HFs in the implementation areas

·      Organize and facilitate trainings and mentoring for health care workers on quality improvement approaches using Ethiopia Ministry of Health QI Guideline for maternal and newborn health based on existing gaps

·      Collaborate with Sponsorship MNH program where feasible for a synergetic effect on improving MNH in the implementation areas;

·      Conduct data quality assessments so as to ensure that the report generated from DHIS are timely, accurate and reliable;

·      Participate in periodic, structured programmatic and data reviews to guide adaptive project management

·      Collaborate with other MNH partners in Waghimra Zone or Implementation Woredas

Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Knowledge Sharing

·      Facilitate Baseline health facilities assessment in collaboration with CO MEAL and Technical Advisors to inform project planning and to be used as a benchmark to assess progress

·      Document and share key programmatic processes not captured in the routine health information management systems.

·      Identify programmatic successes stories, challenges and lessons learned, and document these for internal use and to share it with different stakeholders

·      Facilitate and support dissemination of program learnings for local adaptation and scale up

·      Organize performance review meetings to follow up on project performance

Representation and networking

·      Represent the MNH project, providing consistent guidance including technical and programmatic support across the health structures in the implementation areas

·      Represent SC and MNH project in the zone and woreda level platforms including: in professional fora-meetings, workshops and trainings;

·      Develop and maintain professional relationships with partners supporting MNH in the region, zone and implementation woredas.

General:

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

§ Minimum of BSc degree in health related fields: nursing, public health or other related fields. Master’s degree in any of the related field is has an advantage

Experience and Skills: 

  • ·      Minimum of 6 years of experience in managing MNH or related projects
  • ·      Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations
  • ·      Good knowledge of the Ethiopian health systems and health policy with a particular emphasis on: national Reproductive Health, MNCH, Family planning and HIV/ MTCT issues
  • ·      Experience working with regional, zonal, and woreda level government partners and with partner agencies
  • ·      Experience in facilitation of MNH trainings, and conducting mentorship
  • ·      Proficiency in speaking, writing and reading Amharic and English are required
  • ·      Trainings in Helping Babies Survive (HBS), Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) and MNH QI standards is desired
  • ·      Good skill in communicating, organizing group discussion, and presentation
  • ·      Good computer skill (MS word, MS excel, and other data generating tools)
