Organizational Setting

The Position: 

The Security Associate post is located in UNFPA Sub-office in Mikelle, Tigray and reports to the Head of Field Office on daily functions. The Security Associate maintain technical line of reporting with the Country Security Specialist based in Addis Ababa, in discharge of his/her safety and security responsibilities.

Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-office Mikelle, and technical guidance of the Security Specialist Addis Ababa, the Local Security Associate assists the Field and CO Management team in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the management of safety and security for UNFPA personnel based in northern regions of Tigray, Afar and Amhara of Ethiopia to assist UNFPA humanitarian operations.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Education: 

• Completed Secondary Level Education required. (University Degree in Social Science desirable)
• Studies in Police or any other security school being an asset.

Knowledge and Experience:

• 6 years’ experience in security, preferably in the military or police context or related field of work. Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable. 
• Knowledge of HF and VHF radio operation;
• Experience in diplomatic security, or protection or related area is considered as an asset;
• Knowledge of the country safety codes;
• Solid computers skills (MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint);
• Possession of a valid driver’s license

Languages:

• Fluency in English language is a requirement
