Community Mobilizer

ZOA’s programme in Ethiopia

ZOA works in several regions in Ethiopia: Gambella Regional State (field office in Gambella Town), Somali Regional State (field office in Dolo Ado and Melkadida refugee camp), Tigray Regional State (field office in Shire and Mekelle), Oromia Regional State (field office in Harar), Amhara and Addis Ababa. In Ethiopia, ZOA works with Internally Displaced People (IDPs), host populations, persons with disabilities, returnees, and a large population of refugees who fled a combination of violence and drought in Somalia, South Sudan and Eritrea.

Your challenge 

The Community Mobilizers will be key members of both emergency response projects under the guidance of the respective FSL/shelter/WASH officer. Community Mobilizer is responsible for implementing activities related to the empowerment and mobilization of community members.

Typical Responsibilities - Key end Results of the Position:*

  • Participate in planning and budgeting, preparation of work plans, implementation of planned activities, and monitoring/ reporting of progress.
  • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of planned activities and community-level engagements.
  • Mobilize and facilitate the engagements of stakeholders during planning and development meetings, workshops, and seminars.
  • Identify local level partners, and support and facilitate the partnership in the implementation of planned activities.
  • Facilitate stakeholders and partners in supervision and monitoring of programmatic activities.
  • Support the collection and documentation of impact and success stories monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annually.
  • Documentation of evidence-based impact stories.
  • Sensitize community empowerment through a team approach 

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Diploma/BA degree in social work, sociology, FSL, water engineering, social studies, and other related
  • Good communication skills in both English and the local language ( Amharic language must )
  • Knowledge of community capacity building
  • At least 1 year of experience in Participatory community development principles
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, especially Excel
