 We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Specialist: Energy Optimization Engineer in the Technology Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

 Detailed Description

Reporting to Manager – Data Center and Energy Engineering, the role holder will be Responsible for the electrical and power engineering aspects of existing network optimization design and ngineering in line with delivering an integral quality network within reduced CAPEX and OPEX. To coordinate energy optimization project activities from commencement to completion Provide a communication link with internal planning and operations teams to ensure data centres and sites remain optimal in functionality and initiating upgrades as necessary. To drive the energy efficiency agenda.

 Job Responsibilities

 Audits and Data Analytics

• In-house Electrical/Power analysis and dimensioning of power upgrades based on site capacity and internal customer requirements.
• Ensure ≤75% power loading at all key network Installations.
• Continuously review power back-up time and adequate cooling (where required) at all STEP Network installations.
• Regularly perform energy audits to help monitor performance with respect to energy consumption, come up with improvement plans to drive efficiency and ensure implementation of the same. Central coordination of energy audits done by partners and colleagues will also be required.

Design

• Electrical design and planning of data centres and sites upgrades in line with network roll out and optimization design requirements from internal customer teams.
• Ensure that system efficiency is maximized.

 Support and Project Management

• Electrical/Power Engineering support to other departments within Safaricom.
• Project Management of trials on new power efficient technologies and provision of subsequent recommendations.

Decision Making

• Approval of specifications, drawings, BQs and other project design documents
• Approving consultant’s designs and vendor products
• Developing new designs for all data centres and sites

Key performance indicators:

•  Quality and accuracy of design reports within project timeframes.
• Preparation of respective BoQs for the new equipment and/or upgrades.
• Maintain power utilization of site generators, rectifiers, inverters, UPS and all passive elements at no more than 75% of rated capacity.
• Preparation of short- and long-term plans to support project requirements.
• Preparation of BoQ and where new equipment required: -RFQ documents/specifications
• Recommendation of short- and long-term power efficient solutions.
• Ensure 100% compliance to Safaricom requirements with respect to: quality of materials, workmanship, specifications, design standards, processes, and procedures.
• Ensure overall trial/project completion within agreed timeframes, quality and cost.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• First Degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering) or related from a recognized University.
• Registration with relevant government professional body in charge engineering is desired.
• Over 3 years of work experience in electrical of which 1 years must have been in a telecommunications /mission critical (large banks, hospitals etc) environment.
• Maintenance and operations experience in a telecommunications or mission critical datacenters or sites environment is an added advantage
• Experience in data analytics is a plus. 
• Strong management and organizational skills
• Project management skills. Certification will be considered an added advantage
• Basic working knowledge and competence in MS Office; MS Project, Word, Power Point, Excel and basic AutoCAD
