Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation. Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. EMwA has been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since 1993.

The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia, which are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) global initiatives. The vision of the association is to see every woman, newborn, and their family have access to standard midwifery care. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of midwifery profession through adapting quality and evidence based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and conduct empowering the professionals.

To achieve the desired results, Ethiopian Midwives Association would like to hire competent candidate for the following position. 

Organizational Description:

Position summary:    

The Social Worker reports to the Project coordinator/manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating and Providing RMNCAH-N services and humanitarian activities program in the region. S/he also conduct and coordinate different surveys on the efficiency and effectiveness of the programs and its impact at the grass root level.

Major Duties & Responsibilities      

  • Provide individual and group psychosocial support to children and women affected by the conflict to enable them restore their safety, dignity and hope.
  • Facilitate consultations and discussions with beneficiary populations, making sure they are involved in needs assessment delivery of protection/assistance and development/implementation of durable solutions.
  • Conduct community health education and mobilization to increase demand for service utilization 
  • Ensure all referral/linkage cases are properly transported to the nearest or Woreda capital health facility based on the availability of ambulance and seriousness of the illness.
  • Strengthening of linkages and coordination mechanisms between community, IDPs and Health facilities.
  • Assis the project coordinator in situational assessment, operational planning, implementation and monitoring of the IDP activities.
  • Closely work with local authorities and relevant government sector (Women and children affairs, education, social affairs, schools etc.) to facilitate recovery and reiteration of the affected population.
  • Facilitate school enrollment for boys and girls and closely work with parents, community leaders, civil society organizations and other actors to ensure safety of children on the way to and from schools.
  • Ensure application of standards, guidelines and good practices for child protection and GBV in emergency related activities.
  • Coordinate and manage the establishment of child friendly spaces in collaboration with school, local authorities, and faith leaders.
  • Report to the assigned project coordinator on the progress of all expected activities, and other relevant update on the project
  • Assist with any other duties as required by the EMwA.
  • Conduct training to health workers in health facilities and IDP centers on psychosocial support
  • Conduct training to community volunteers on psycho social support
  • Participate in project beneficiaries’ identification and selection processes;
  • Prepare field reports or summary reports, and submit to the Project Coordinator in a timely manner;
  • Collect, update, organize, store and retrieve data of all project beneficiaries;
  • Work closely with the project team to ensure that all planned activities are dealt with according to the action plan;
  • Respond promptly to any internal queries related to all project activities;
  • Mentor, provide support and feedback for beneficiaries in areas of improvement;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with beneficiaries, and build a knowledge base of current trends and changes in the communities;
  • Document best practices, provide recommendation for work plans, and annual reviews;
  • Perform another Other duties as required

Job Requirements

Education:

  • BSc in social worker , Sociology and above, Midwife and other health professionals with background of sociology 

Experience and training:  

  • Extensive training in the fields of CP/GBV, pyscho-Social wellbeing, case management and application of international technical guidelines and standards in Child Protection and GBV.
  • Knowledge, skills of, and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including GBV
  • Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms.

  • Good planning and prioritizing skills;
  • Demonstrable professionalism;
  • Program Management and team leader skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively both spoken & written in English and Amharic
  • Having additional regional working language skill
