Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation. Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. EMwA has been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since 1993.

The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia, which are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) global initiatives. The vision of the association is to see every woman, newborn, and their family have access to standard midwifery care. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of midwifery profession through adapting quality and evidence based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and conduct empowering the professionals.

To achieve the desired results, Ethiopian Midwives Association would like to hire competent candidate for the following position.

Position summary:    

The Psychology reports to the Project coordinator/manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating and Providing RMNCAH-N services and humanitarian activities program in the region. S/he also conduct and coordinate different surveys on the efficiency and effectiveness of the programs and its impact at the grass root level. 

Major Duties & Responsibilities    

• Provide individual and group Psychological first aid and psychosocial support to children and women affected by the conflict to enable them restore their safety, dignity and hope.
•  Conduct psychological assessments and/or tests.
• Develop and implement an individualized treatment plan for each Survivor/conflict affected people.
• Advise families on what they can do for the surviors or how to respond to certain behaviors.
• Provide complete documentation and records of assessments and treatments
• Works in collaboration with caregivers/ parents of children to problem solve; train caregivers/house parents on behavioral management techniques; provide one-on-one modeling and coaching; educate caregivers on child's mental health issues.
• Provides services in the location most convenient to the client and family
• Ensure emotional wellbeing and recovery through management of the issues that are caused by trauma. 
• Incorporates trauma-informed care philosophy, practices and strategies in all activities.
•  Undertaking an effective case management approach to the delivery of psychological and psychosocial services.
• Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing various psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies.
• Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment programs accordingly; communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
• Supervise interns ,clinicians and counseling professionals to develop skills
• Documents therapy in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies, which ensure patient confidentiality.
• Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
• Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
• May instruct and direct students serving psychological internships in hospitals and clinics.
• Provides psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within hospitals, clinics, and other community-based agencies with regard to clients and/or patient care
• Applying evidence-based knowledge and understanding of the mental health systems, community health and service needs, service delivery, referral pathways in providing holistic therapeutic services.
• Conduct community health education and mobilization to increase demand for service utilization 
• Strengthening early referrals mechanism
• Ensure all referral cases are properly transported to the nearest or Woreda capital health facility based on the availability of ambulance and seriousness of the illness.
• Strengthening of linkages and coordination mechanisms between community, IDPs and Health facilities.
• Assis the project coordinator in situational assessment, operational planning, implementation and monitoring of the IDP activities.
• Closely work with local authorities and relevant government sector (Women and children affairs, education, social affairs, schools etc.) to facilitate recovery and reiteration of the affected population.
• Organizing the trainings on Psycho-social support and counseling for the care givers
•  Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychology, Mental health 

Experience and training:  

• Relevant experience in psychology/trauma therapy.
• Experience in counseling and psychosocial support for vulnerable peoples.
• Knowledge and experience in application of international technical guidelines for Mental Health and Psycho-social services.
• Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming is an asset.
• Knowledge of prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
• Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines through excellent time management, organization and multi-tasking skills.
