SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a Driver who will be responsible for providing secure and timely driving services to transport project staff and other passengers and/or goods.

Your role....

While working with us a Driver, you will be In charge of the following;

  • Keeping car clean and regularly checking lights, indicators, brakes, tyre pressure, oil, battery and radiator and report any malfunction for maintenance and timely vehicle servicing to HROD/ Project Coordinator
  • Carriying out the driving requirements of the project site as directed by the Project Coordinator.
  • Driving safely at all times and observes traffic rules & regulations, keeps records of trips in logbook.
  • Reporting any accidents to police and the HROD and HR/OP immediately; 
  • Following the insurance guidelines and procedures in the event of an accident to report immediately with possible means of communication and to be followed by filling out of insurance claim for with 3 days and submit to the HROD
  • Ensuring the timely vehicle inspection is fulfilled;
  • Keeping proper vehicle documents as per SOS CVE Fleet management Manual and the national regulations; 
  • Following manuals, keep accurate log-book recording and fuel and lubricant consumption;
  • Ensuring his/her assigned vehicle is not used for any other purpose other than the official SOS CVE business;
  • Handling the vehicle assigned to him properly and park at SOS CVE Program or Project Premises at the end of driving;
  • Ensuring his/her assigned vehicle is not used for unauthorized passengers and cargo and avoid excess passenger or cargo on the vehicle;
  • Following procedure as outlined in SOS CVE Fleet Manual, Collective Agreement and other Operation Manuals.

The must haves:

Education

  • Certificate of technical/Vocational training or at least grade 10 complete
  • Proper and Valid Driving License (Grade 3)

Experience

  • 2-4 Years of experience
  • Ability to travel to project sites
  • Ability to properly handle the vehicle assigned to him/her

Additional Requirements and required competencies

  • Experience on repairing vehicles is advantageous
  • Ability to act in a professional and ethical manner
  • Good interpersonal skill
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and demanding workload

The Pluses:

  • Prior INGO Experience is an asset
