Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs  to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant  actors to bring  sustainable  positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia has secured a four years project from DANIDA (Danish International Development Agency-Government Agency). The project will be implemented in three East African countries, including Somaliland, Kenya. It contributes toward the objective of Young care leavers in East Africa and the Horn of Africa to demonstrate resilience and self-reliance to become independent and contributing members of society. In Ethiopia, the project shall be implemented in Addis Ababa

Why we need you?

We are looking for a Project Officer who is mainly responsible for implementing the project by identifying participants for the the project, working closely with government organizations, youth leagues, alumni associations, civil society organizations, and other youth-led structure's and contributing to the annual planning process, periodically update the plan in line with the policies and strategies of the project

Your role...

Project Implementation

  • Facilitate dialogue sessions with youth care leavers associations, youth league, and other youth led-structures.

  • Contribute to the production of the project progress reports and they are based on results-based monitoring and evaluation, including the impact of the project and reports are coherent, of high quality and adhere to donor and SOSCVE standards prior to submission.

  • Ensure the quality of outputs and results with optimal monitoring mechanisms; establish effective coordination, monitoring, information sharing and reporting systems.

Financial management and administration of the project

  •  Implement financial and administrative procedures, in line with the organisation’s policies/guidelines and in consultation with financial support staff. 

  • Ensures all programme expenditure/resource usage is in line with the annual plan and budget. 

Build a strong project team

  • Participate in conducting regular reflections/project progress at location level to ensure successful project Implementation

  • Take part in the orientation programmes for new co-workers to ensure they have a good understanding of the organisation and their role within it. 

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Provide immediate supervisor with regular up-dates on programme activities and results, including regular written reports, according to organisational requirements.

  • Take part actively in the regular financial management reports, including budget vs. expenditure reports, as required for the effective management of programme resources.    

Child Safeguarding

  • Responsible to ensure that all beneficiaries are receiving ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information in relevant languages about SOS Children’s Villages Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.

  • Ensure that all support is provided on the best interest of the child.

  • Responsible to take part in raise awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to CS and Code of Conduct and  to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination

  • Support children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms 

  • Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager

The must haves:

Education

  • Degree in Social Work or sociology or similar discipline

Experience

  • 2-5 years of Experience in similar position

  • Exposure working with government institutes

Additional Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and administrative skills

  • Knowledge on Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Reporting Writting

  • Experience working NG
