Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

Why we need you?

We are looking for  Associate Program Manager for SOS Family Care, who is responsible for coordinating the youth development program. The job holder also assists the Location Program Manager for ACC & CS,  in making sure quality program services are delivered to children and care givers in alternative care model. In addition, he/she is accountable for supporting Child Care Professionals -SOS Aunts, Youth Care Program Officers,  Educational Support Program Officers and Health & Socio-emotional well-being Program Officers

Your role....

While working with us as Associate Program Manager for Alternative Care & Child Safeguarding, , you will be responsible to:

  • Adminsters varous youth related affars and activities 

  • Coordinates and guides the living arrangements of youths. 

  • Searches for apprenticeship opportunities for the youth with organizations and administers such placement and follow-up. 

  • Searches for employment opportunities for the youth with organizations and handles the placement and follow-up of such opportunities. 

  • Work closely with youth leaders to study and organize self-employment. 

  • Conducts visit to youths in higher institutions under the Program Location and other forms Alternative Child Care (ACC) families.  

  • Facilitates for the payment of living allowance for all community integrated youth. 

  • Ensures the payment of school and training fees on behalf of the youth. 

  • Provides/facilitates counseling services to youth.  

  • Coordinates and monitors the work of Aunts, Youth care co-workers and Community social workers.  

  • Directs the professional development of Aunts, Youth care co-workers and Community social workers. 

  • Evaluate and monitor the services provided by Youth care co-workers, Aunts and Other forms ACC guardians/caregivers. 

  • Conduct performance review of Aunts, Youth leaders and Community social workers  

  • Assists in coordinating the works of the alternative child care programme at the location by receiving directions from Program Coordinator or Programme Director. 

  • Work in partnership with stakeholders towards the works of foster care, kinship care and local adoption programmes. 

  • Design short and long term strategies and implement youth development of the location. 

  • Lead and coordinate Youth care co-workers, SOS Aunts, Community social workers and Foster families.  

  • Participate in team activities of the location.

Child Safeguarding

  • Responsible to take part in  awareness raising sessions and capacity building trainings in relation to Child Safeguarding to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination  

  • Support children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms  

  • Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager

The must haves:

Education

  • BA Degree in sociology, Social work or similar discipline. 

Experience 

  • 4 years of relevant work experiences particularly with children and youth

Knowledge, skills, abilities

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and local language(s). 

  •  Experience in project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation. 

  • Good knowledge and understanding of children’s rights and rights-based approaches in the development of programmes.  

  • Awareness and understanding of social development issues including gender, education, health, HIV/AIDS, etc.  

  • Understanding of human resource development. 

  • Experience in budget development. 

  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work under high pressure.  

  • Positive and professional approach: highly organised, results oriented, using initiative and keeping commitments.

  • Experience in community mobilization.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and local language(s).
