Job Summary
The position holder reports to the Project Coordinator in the north Shewa coordination office and is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of child protection and related activities in Ethiopia under the nexus project Play Matters Emergency Response Mechanism; child protection part of focus on case management service, capacity building and training for key stakeholders, referral, awareness-raising, and network development.
Key responsibility
Conduct rapid CP need assessment in coordination with other sectors,
Identify, verify and document school children who are in need of case management services
Provide response services for documented children including referrals to services available in the community
Provide need base material support for UASC and other vulnerable children and caregivers
Conduct home visit and follow-up cases of UASC and other vulnerable children
Identify unaccompanied minors for alternative care arrangement
Establish and equip Safe Healing and Learning Spaces,
Provide MHPSS training for child protection staff and community incentive SWs,
Provide positive parenting skills training for caregivers of children aged 6 -11,
Provide MHPSS training for community incentive workers and children
Produce IEC /BCC materials with key child protection concern and carry-out mass awareness raising ceremonies during international event days (Universal Children's Day, African Child Day…ets.
Provide training on case management, alternative care arrangement, FTR, MHPSS for CP staff
Provide training for service providers (teachers,) on child rights, protection concerns, service mapping and referral pathways
Provide case management, MHPSS, for CP staff including local government office of women and Children's Affairs
Establish/ strengthen Key community base groups (CPC, child rights clubs),
Conduct monthly coordination meetings, and discussed the capacity of family environment of proposed foster parents to provide need based necessary support
Provide training to Key community base groups /structures (CPC, CRC) on child rights, protection concerns, service mapping and referral pathways
Conduct caregivers and key community base group discussion forum
Conduct project (kick-off) phase-in and phase-out workshops
Job Requirements
Required Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
BA or Master’s degree and above in social work, psychology, social studies, development studies or other related field of study. At least 3 years relevant experience in humanitarian sector for MA degree and 5 years for BA degree holder.
Skills Required, Attitudes and Attributes:
Experience of working in a child protection area in IDPs, refugees or host communities
Proven skills in managing staff reporting to her/him; excellent coordination skills;
Fluent written and spoken English and Amharic
Proven program & project cycle management skills - proposal and report writing skills; monitoring and evaluation skills and experience;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Knowledge and experience of emergency and development issues
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize well and meet deadlines;
Ability to travel extensively, especially to remote areas;
Experience in and the ability to train, coach, mentor people.
Additional requirements
Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity;
Good skills in planning, monitoring and reporting;
Strong organizational and logistical skills;
Goal-oriented with ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision;
Ability and willingness to work and live in challenging conditions;
