Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following positions.

REPORT TO: Director, Media & Communication

DURATION: Open/indefinite contract

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 19, 157.00 -ETB 22,817.00 plus ETB 6,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,500.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history

 Purpose of the Job: 

Represents EHRC’s as main contact for the media. The role entails a wide range of responsibilities, from preparing press releases and organizing press conferences and interviews, to liaising with media contacts and monitoring media coverage of the commission.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Preparing and writing articles and press releases;

• Support in local media monitoring, translation and local media coverage pick up of human rights issues;

• Responsible to maintain updated website page of the branch office;

• Handling enquiries from journalists and other media contacts via telephone calls, email and written correspondence;

• Arranging and organizing events, interviews and press conferences;

• Liaising with media representatives and managers;

• Monitoring current affairs and coverage of the Commission within the media;

• Writing clear, concise and effective press releases and preparing press kits, case histories and additional material for use by the media;

• Issuing press releases and other informative and promotional materials to media mailing lists;

• Maintaining relations with the media;

• Monitoring the media coverage and visibility of the organization by creating and circulating press reviews;

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• MA/BA Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, International Studies, Political Science and related field

• 2 years of relevant experience for MA 4 years of relevant experience for BA and

• Computer Literate

• Knowledge of Amharic is required.

• Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
