Job Description

The ISS in Addis Ababa is seeking two interns to support the work of the Ethiopia project. The interns will help with research, writing and event organisation, and report to the Ethiopia project head.

The Ethiopia project aims to establish the foundations for sustainable peace in the country. The work involves enhancing the knowledge and institutional capacities of government officials, community leaders and civil society organisations for conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding. It also entails improving political governance and civil society engagement in decision making at federal and regional administrative levels.

Overview of duties

  • Assist with research, analysis and writing, including conducting background research, developing a research database and preparation of background papers and concept notes

  • Assist in arranging events

  • Assist with planning, communication and coordination

  • Provide ad-hoc administrative support to ISS staff

The contract will be for five months, and a monthly stipend is offered.

Job Requirements

Overview of requirements

  • A post-graduate degree in social sciences, political science, international relations or a related field

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Prior work and/or research experience on Ethiopia’s peace and security and political dynamics

  • Independent, creative and proactive
