Communication Specialist (For Maternity Replacement)

The African Union (AU), established as a unique Pan African continental body, was charged with the responsibility to coordinate and provide overall guidance for the negotiations on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The AfCFTA entered into force on 30 May 2019.
The Communications Specialist will be working on all levels of cooperation; on continental level, he/she will be working with and providing support to the component leads and continental partners, the AUC and the AfCFTA secretariat. Regionally, the communications advisor will provide support to advisors to the Regional Economic communities (EAC, ECOWAS and SADC), The programme also has eight focus countries through which national level support to the negotiation and implementation of the AfCFTA is provided. The communication advisor provides support to the advisors on the ground as well as partner organizations on communication-related matters upon request.

African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Communication specialist for a temporary period of Ten months to cover a maternity leave.
Contract Duration: 10 months
Responsibilities and Duties
Overall Responsibilities
Support the continental partners and programme team in fostering their role in communication and PR across all intervention levels
Close collaboration with AU Commission, the GIZ AfCFTA Support Programme Team (which the advisor is part of) as well as with RECs
Develop creative communication and outreach material for the project in order to enhance awareness and understanding of the project among relevant stakeholders in the different countries and regions of the project.
Provide expert advice and input for internal and external communication activities, such as press briefings, internet pages, annual reports, newsletter and communication activities around major AfCFTA milestones.
Manage short-term communication experts to undertake subject-specific support into areas of concern to Member State representatives participating in technical meetings throughout the key project component topics of trade in services, goods as well as the investment protocol.
Technical advice and project coordination on various aspects of trade integration, including trade in goods, trade in services, trade facilitation, and stakeholder involvement and possibly also industrialization, value chain and other emerging topics
Participate in the AfCFTA Team meetings and bilateral exchanges with AfCFTA advisors throughout the various project components and locations
Work with other GIZ projects and be familiar with GIZ internal procurement processes
Required qualifications, competences, and experience
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Communication/ Media/ Journalism, social sciences, political science, cultural studies or related
Fluent in English and preferably knowledge of French or German
Professional Experience
A minimum of 5 years in related experience
Experience in implementing corporate design guidelines
Experience in producing communication materials
Experience in communications, media production, including publishing or graphic design software, editorial experience
Previous experience with GIZ related to communication
Other knowledge, additional competencies
Solid Communication skills in an intercultural environment
Problem-solving orientation
Excellent command of MS office software
Preferably publisher, or other additional software qualifications
