Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following positions.
Purpose of the Job:
Coordinate the implementation of the Function’s strategy and the promotion and protection of children rights.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development of a strategic plan, including defining priorities, goals, objectives and targets of the Function/department, its implementation and monitoring and evaluation as much as the rights of children are concerned;
Contribute to the annual plan of the function and its implementation;
Provide the required technical and administrative support to projects, activities and initiatives for the promotion and protection of children’s rights;
Coordinate information gathering, research, analysis, and fact-finding missions on the violation of human rights of children;
Coordinate the review of policy, legislative and programmatic frameworks in relation to the promotion and protection of children’s rights, so as to ensure compliance with international and regional human rights standards;
Coordinate and implement advocacy and campaign activities for the effective implementation of children’s rights;
See to the undertaking of researches on human rights of children to identify systemic violations of children’s rights;
Coordinate the collection and analysis of disaggregated data regarding the rights of children;
Coordinate and guide the development and implementation of plans of monitoring of human rights at different institutions as well as levels with aim to identify gaps, provide recommendations and advices;
Coordinate the follow up of the implementation of recommendations, general comments and concluding observations of international and regional treaty bodies that are relevant to children’s rights;
Contribute to the development of guidelines, where applicable, relating to the human rights of children and monitor State compliance with such guidelines;
Contribute to the write up and review of the communication and publication of human rights reports regarding children’s human rights situation;
Ensure mainstreaming of children’s rights, as relevant, in other EHRC’s activities and programming;
Contribute to plans to ensure that the Commission is free from GBV/VAW/C as well as other exploitation and abuse;
Coordinate the follow up of the implementation of recommendations, general comments and concluding observations of international and regional treaty bodies that are related to the rights of children at the national level;
Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration, including other NHRIs and international and regional human rights networks.
Support the identification and assistance of capacity building needs of both governmental and non-governmental national stakeholders on children’s rights.
Coordinate the mapping of stakeholders and setting up referral system to provide support to children who suffered human rights violation and are in need of support;
Support in writing project proposals and concept notes for the promotion and protection of children’s human rights.
Generic Duties of the Position:
Support in the preparation of the function work plan and monitor their implementation;
Support in identification of human resources requirements of the Function and develop plan for meeting the requirements. Support the development of subordinates through periodic performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, ongoing performance dialogue and feedback. Oversee the systematic identification of skill and competency requirements for the Function. Manage disciplinary concerns of the function’s staff as per the company’s policy;
Support in development of policies and procedures for the Function and lead in their implementation and continuous review;
Represent the Commission in external relationships related with the Function based on the Director’s approval;
Take part in the group decision making process by forming part of different groups/committees;
Perform additional assignments and delegations given by the Director.
LOCATION: Head Office/Addis Ababa
REPORT TO : Director, Women’s and Children’s Rights
DURATION : One-Year Contract
SALARY RANGE : Gross monthly salary of ETB 25,756.00 -ETB 30,676.00 plus ETB 8,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,900.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and earning history
Qualifications and Experience:
MA in Human Rights Law, LL.M in Human Rights, LLM in International Law, LLM in Law (Public Law relevant to Human Rights), and Gender Studies. Candidates with Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
6 years of relevant experience with MA including experience in management of resources
Computer literate
Knowledge of Amharic

The forum will cover key thematic areas, including: • Media freedom, constitutional guarantees, and rule of law principles with the focus on the international and regional frameworks (including UDHR, ICCPR, ACHPR, and UN frameworks on journalist safety) to set the context. • National legal frameworks governing media and freedom of expression, and their implications for law enforcement, media operation and CSOs advocacy practice. • Digital rights, cyber-security, and the protection of media and CSOs actors in online spaces. • Co-creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or a Code of Conduct to guide Law Enforcement Agencies–Media-CSOs engagement, during special events, particularly in the context of the upcoming election. The consultant will facilitate discussions, group work, and role-play exercises to encourage dialogue, identify friction points, and propose practical solutions. Following the forum, the consultant is expected to prepare a concise report summarizing key outcomes, recommendations, and agreed next steps, as well as a draft SOP/Code of Conduct reflecting the contributions of participants.
