CARITAS Switzerland (CACH) has been working in Ethiopia for more than 45 years. Currently CACH cooperates with four partners in Ethiopia. CACH has successfully been registered as an International Non[1]Government Organization in Ethiopia and has therefore become operational at project implementation level. CACH’s main working fields are: Climate, Income, Migration as well as Humanitarian Aid Responses. CACH current working areas are in Oromia, SNNPR and Tigray. CACH supports and implements currently about ten projects in these regions. CACH supports and implements different projects in these regions.
Summary of Duties
The Humanitarian Aid Expert (HAE) is reporting to the Humanitarian Aid Coordinator at the CACH country office in Addis Ababa. The person selected will be the reference and the representative of the Project in the field, monitor and supervise the respective activities at the same time as they go about its implementation in order to guarantee that the objectives are met in line with the policies and strategies of CACH. At the same time, the HAE constantly monitors the context of the project area in order to propose adaptations in the project, propose new interventions, and react to emergencies. The HAE must be ready to undertake frequent field trips to project sites.
Main Areas of Responsibility
Prepare and keep the require up to date project data:
Support the humanitarian response for drought affected IDPs in Guji Zone, Ethiopia at woreda and
kebele level under the supervision of the Project Manager.
Facilitate establishment of beneficiary selection and compliant committees.
Facilitate beneficiary’s registration process.
Provide input and regular up-date beneficiary data.
Prepare lists and distribution cards.
Organize meeting minutes and documentation
Plan and timely reporting the project progress.
Implement and follow up the WASH humanitarian response activities:
Implement the planned project activities.
Determine and update regularly the material needs for the activities.
Monitor the day-to-day activities of WASH emergency interventions at community level.
Facilitate and monitoring visits.
Produce regular project activities on weekly base, minute, and other necessary reports.
Other related activities
Document any changes in the socioeconomic and livelihood conditions in the intervention area.
Identify the actual needs of the most vulnerable populations.
Share situational update on regular base
Propose potential responses to these needs.
Explain the project’s activities and objectives to partners and the community.
Handle other responsibilities and tasks required by the line managers.
The ideal candidate represents the majority of the below mentioned areas
Degree in community development/social sciences, project management, economics, or any other relevant field.
Experience in Emergency WASH activities.
A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position in Southern Ethiopia, ideally in Guji.
Experience in relevant working areas with other international organizations in Ethiopia; work experience with relevant donor organizations is an asset.
Knowledge in participatory approaches, Problem resolving capacity and very strong reporting and communication/writing skills.
Excellent command of English, both, in writing and spoken is mandatory; a good knowledge of Oromiffa and of local dialects of the location is a strong asset.
Demonstrate ability to coordinate field activities.
Possession of self-drive; able to work with minimal supervision.
Good report writing and computer skills.

Duty stations will be Negele Borena field office with frequent field visits to project sites in Liben and Goro Dola woredas.
