Job Description

Role Summary

The holder of this position is responsible for the protection of the company’s interests and properties of the company by ensuring proactive compliance with prevailing legislations which regulate the overall operations and functioning of the company and its subsidiaries. The owner of the position is also responsible to put in place a legal risk management framework with a view to identify and mitigate the impacts of legal risk proactively. He/she is also responsible to manage regulatory risk by deploying the regulatory risk management framework for the company to be informed timely about the enactment of new legislations and the changes made to the existing ones. He/she should supervise the management of IPRs, licensing, certifications, ownership titles, leases, insurance and other related matters.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review of all relevant statutory laws and regulations applicable to the Company and ensure compliance;

  • Ensure that business activities are conducted in conformity with all applicable laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures;

  • Ensure that all regulatory permissions remain current and appropriate for business needs.

  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments and industry initiatives and provide advice accordingly.

  • Carry out review of current policies, procedures and Manuals to ensure applicable regulatory laws are incorporated

  • Continual compliance risk assessment of company practices together with the development of internal policies and procedures, compliance training and protocols.

  • Serve as liaison for all regulatory bodies as well as maintaining relationships with relevant legal bodies and other stakeholders;

  • Liaise with third parties that wish to understand the company’s control environment, compliance policies and procedures

  • Provide reporting with respect to regulatory requirements and developments

  •  Develop compliance checklists and prepare compliance reports, as and when due

  • Supervise the management of IPRs, licensing and certifications, ownership titles, leases, insurance etc with a view to ensure that the company’s license to operate is not challenged and the interests and property rights of the company are well protected.

  • Provides other legal services ( preparation of legal works, contracts, litigation management) as requested by the company.

Job Requirements

Required qualification 

  • BA degree in LLB

  • 6 years of experience and of which three years of experience as a legal & regulatory affairs manager in corporations;
