Job Description

Ohio State Global One Health (GOH, LLC) is an affiliate entity of The Ohio State University working extensively on a range of One Health related projects over the past 12 years targeting laboratory, surveillance, and healthcare (both human and animal), work force capacity strengthening through applied education, training, and research through out Ethiopia and other Eastern African countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess gaps related to infection prevention and control (IPC) activities within hospitals and design and arrange follow-up IPC activities

  • Providing technical supervision and guidance to the IPC staff in network hospitals

  • Lead in ensuring the implementation of the standard and transmission-based precautions among network hospitals in collaboration with IPC committee and other units in the hospitals

  • Lead the IPC activities together with IPC focal, IPC committee at each facility and monitor the resources needed to sustain the IPC activities

  • Lead and participate in the development of updated protocols, SOPs, and guidelines for IPC activities as per national and international guidelines

  • Lead in implementation of IPC auditing/monitoring policies and procedures through stepwise IPC improvement approach, adapted to the local context.

  • Lead in development of IPC audit reports at designated time periods (Example: Monthly, quarterly, and yearly report and trend on IPC activities such as but not limited to Hand Hygiene [HH], Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] and Environmental Cleaning [EVC].)

  • Lead developments of project documents, job aids, training materials, and operational guidelines

  • Participate in the capacity building activities of the project and deliver trainings where appropriate considering IPC activities

  • Develop basic tools for monitoring AMR IPC indicators and data collection tools

  • Coordinate reporting and follow-up activities with laboratory based for multi-drug resistant pathogen identified as per SOP.

  • Organize and disseminate the progress of IPC related activities from network hospitals to all relevant stakeholders

  • Regularly report IPC related and other project activities

  • Represent Global One Health (GOH) in different national platforms on IPC related activities

  • Execute other responsibilities as required 

Accountability: The IPC senior expert will be accountable to the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) project manager

Employment type: Full time one-year contract with a possibility of yearly renewal upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Medical Doctor  with Infectious Disease specialization is a plus

  • Work experience in the field of clinical health services for at least 10 years

  • Experience in coordinating IPC activities for minimum of 3 years

  • Have relevant trainings on IPC

  • Experience of providing trainings and services in IPC activities

  • Excellent communication skills including English language (excellent verbal and written communication)
