Job Description

The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. THP believes in a world where every woman, man and child can lead a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity; and works towards that goal by pioneering sustainable strategies for gender-focused and Integrated Community Led Development, which is the process of working together to create and achieve locally owned visions and goals. THP-E is implementing projects in rural areas of Ethiopia since 2004 and currently recruiting full time staff for the position: 

Job Summary

The Program Manager reports to the Country Manager and is responsible for the development of programs that support THP-E’s mission in Ethiopia including researching, planning, developing, and implementing programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train and be a motivating mentor to THP-E program staff. 

  • Lead program team discussions to answer questions and remedy complaints.

  • Create and nurture effective communication within the program team and THP-E staff. 

  • Build a strong team through open communication and by collaborating on decision-making responsibilities. 

  • Develop new programs that support THP-E’s strategic objectives including leading project proposals development activities.

  • Ensure that government policy standards & donors requirements are adhered to in the program development and during implementation.

  • Work with Administration and Finance team to develop annual budgets and plans for the programs.

  • Plan programs from beginning to end, including identifying processes, deadlines, and milestones.

  • Conduct supportive supervision and overseeing project managers & officers to ensure goals are met.

  • Meet with stakeholders to discuss program development, partnership agreements, and program implementation status.

  • Guide ME&L and Advocacy & Communication officers to enhance visibility of THP-E programs & partners; and facilitate learning & scale up.

  • Ensures that good quality activity and financial reports are prepared and delivered to stakeholders timely.

  • Assist the Country Manager in matters relating to program activities and other major concerns of the organization.

  • Carry out other similar activities assigned by the Country Manager.

Term of Employment: One year, with a possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Education

  • Minimum of second level university degree in rural development, agriculture, international development, economics, or related field.

Work experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a program management position responsible for leading program development and implementing activities in CSO setting.

Languages

  • Excellent written and spoken command of English and Amharic.

Competencies

  • AKnowledge of rural development and rights-based approaches; and skills in cost control & budgeting, management & leadership, risk management, problem-solving, and computer applications.
