Main job purpose

Role holder will be required to support the Tax Manager in Ethiopia to ensure that the businesses comply with all respective tax regulations as well as Company policy on Tax matters.

Key interactions

Internal:  Finance Controller Ethiopia, Tax Manager, SC and Sales team, Finance team (Ethiopia, EA, Africa), Others

External: Revenue & Custom Authority Authority officials, external consultants/auditors, Suppliers, third party contractors

Key Accountabilities

• Keep up to date with current tax legislation for Ethiopia and prepare half annual updates for the finance team

• Monthly/quarterly company tax and VAT filling to the MOR

• Interpret new tax statutes and determine implications for the businesses for Ethiopia & Djibouti

• Business partnering skills to support cross functional team tax & vat matters.

• Executing risk management in Tax and VAT space

• Supporting in control through executing right actions

• Ensuring control in place on documentations related to Tax filling

• Driving timely reconciliations of VAT current Account including Tax GLs

• Follow up on proper documentation of supporting documents related to import purchases in line with the requirements of Ministry of Revenue.

• Advise the business on Tax risks, including any Tax assessments and provide options to mitigate the risk.

• Collaborate with tax consultants in facilitation of tax due diligence, advisory, and health checks for direct and indirect taxation.

• Maintain strong relationships with business leaders, third party consultants, and government agencies.

• Support the full deployment of Future of Tax (FoT) and interface with third party service providers as part of the model.

• Ensure compliance to internal reporting requirements

• Any other tasks that may be assigned as appropriate.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or related field of study

• 2-4 years minimum relevant working experience in Tax in a busy environment

• Excellent knowledge and experience on Ethiopia and Djibouti tax rules and regulations

• Familiar with tax and other relevant accounting (global – IFRS and local accounting principles)

• Ability to build relationships while holding stakeholders accountable  

• Excellent written and oral communication ability

• Strong Compliance management and organizational skills

• Strong integrated system proficiency -SAP is added advantage
