The Carter Center is a not-for-profit international NGO committed to waging peace, fighting disease and building hope worldwide. The Carter Center country office in Ethiopia, which assists the Government of Ethiopia in Disease Elimination and Eradication Programs is looking for a qualified professional to fill the following vacancy for its Health Program:

Reports to:                  Trachoma Program Manager

Summary of Job Description:  

·         Prepares project development, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of Trachoma control program research activities.

·         In close consultation with M&E officer and data manager retrieves and analyzes program data to share with program decision makers. (Excel and Access) and statistical software (Epi Info, SPSS and STATA).

·         Coordinates baseline surveys and impact assessments for program monitoring.

·         Provides input, as appropriate, into study concept notes, protocols, ethics applications, data analysis, reporting, and dissemination of research.

·         Leads and/or contributes to drafting papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

·         Works very closely with trachoma Program Manager and other program officers to conduct surveys, update progress status on surveillance, and facilitates operational research.

·         Keeps track of published studies on trachoma, in-country and outside, and updates Carter Center staff

·         Compiles monthly activity reports focused on researches related Trachoma Control Program activities.

·         Perform other duties as instructed by supervisor.  

Job Requirements

Qualification:          

MSc, MPH in Epidemiology, Public Health, Monitoring and Evaluation, Health Informatics or Biostatistics from a recognized university.

Experience:            

Relevant experience of minimum seven years preferably on trachoma or other NTD projects.

Additional Requirements:

·         Relevant publications in trachoma or public health, preferably in peer-reviewed international journals

·         Ability to work in team and demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills

·         Very good knowledge in Microsoft soft wares (Excel and Access) and statistical soft wares ( EPi Info, SPSS and STATA).

·         Very good English language communication skill (written and verbal).

·         Readiness to travel to various project sites sometimes to remote locations for longer period of time. 

·         Capacity to develop/update data base from which he/she generates monthly and annual reports for the Trachoma program

·         Capable to coordinate baseline surveys and impact assessments for program monitoring

·         Capable to give input as appropriate, into study concept notes, protocols, ethics applications, data analysis, reporting and dissemination of research.

·         Capable to lead on and/or contribute to drafting papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
