The Carter Center is a not-for-profit international NGO committed to waging peace, fighting disease and building hope worldwide. The Carter Center country office in Ethiopia, which assists the Government of Ethiopia in Disease Elimination and Eradication Programs is looking for a qualified professional to fill the following vacancy for its Health Programs.
Job Description:
• The Junior Accountant assigned at CO is responsible to review, checks and verifies the supporting documents for payment request and prepares cheque for signature by signatories.
• Ascertains that all relevant documents are in place and appropriate before payment approval is made.
• Closes monthly reports and prepares periodic financial reports upon request
• Codes expenses with correct budget line account and charges the appropriate class/program.
• Prepares bank reconciliation every month and takes necessary action if corrections are needed.
• Ensures that payments are made as per budget allocation.
• Closes account books and prepares audit report at fiscal year-end.
• Follows up and reminds monthly and annual bill settlements and contracts and statutory payments.
• Follows up on finance management and ensures appropriate utilization of funds.
• Prepares the necessary financial reports for relevant government offices as needed.
• Follows up petty cash expenditures and verifies documents for petty cash replenishment.
• Deals with and follow up bank activities like timely transfers, deposits, withdrawals and collection of advices, cheque books and bank statements.
• Performs timely work and travel advance settlement for staff and partners.
• Performs proper and explanatory filing system for petty cash, journal vouchers, and check transaction vouchers of the office.
• In consultation with supervisor, ensures that payments are made as per budget allocation.
• Manages and handles fuel coupons.
• Recommend and makes all the necessary efforts that will help to improve the accounting system of TCCE.
• Performs other activities as instructed by supervisor.
Required Number: 1 (One)
Terms of Employment: one year with strong possibility of extension
Qualification and Experience:
BA degree in Accounting from a recognized university.
Relevant experience of minimum two years in Accounting and Finance field. NGO experience is highly preferable
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work in team and demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills
Strong computer skills in Microsoft office, internet and proven experience in accounting software: QuickBooks, smart etc.
Bilingual: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Amharic and English
Willingness to travel and work in remote areas for field work
Recommendation letter from the most recent employer
Able to present release letter from current employer in two weeks after job offer
