Child Protection Officer
ZOA’s programme in Ethiopia
ZOA works in several regions in Ethiopia: Gambella Regional State (field office in Gambella Town), Somali Regional State (field office in Dolo Ado and Melkadida refugee camp), Tigray Regional State (field office in Shire and Mekelle), Oromia Regional State (field office in Harar), Amhara and Addis Ababa. In Ethiopia, ZOA works with Internally Displaced People (IDPs), host populations, persons with disabilities, returnees, and a large population of refugees who fled a combination of violence and drought in Somalia, South Sudan and Eritrea.

Your challenge
Working under the direct management of the Protection Manager , the Child Protection Officer will be responsible for contributing to the technical supervision and implementation of ZOA’s child protection program around Woldiya. The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for the day to day management of the child protection unit covering the areas of child protection. The Child Protection Officer will collaborate with other officers to ensure effective, relevant and holistic protection programming delivering activities in line with protection standards. Furthermore, the Child Protection Officer is expected to provide support to the project cycle management, proposal development and program strategy.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Providing technical guidance to the Child Protection program to ensure quality and adherence to national and international protection standards and guidelines;
Build the capacity of the protection team through mentoring as well as designing and delivering relevant protection training for staff and beneficiaries as/when needed;
Lead or contribute to protection assessments and mappings, and identify protection needs related to child protection;
Supporting protection program development, including project design and developing of proposals;
Oversee and revise Best Interest Determination (BID) reports produced by social workers to ensure their quality and adherence to UNHCR BID guidelines;
Oversee activities in Child-Friendly Spaces in areas of Woldiya and ensure inclusion of all minorities in the camp as well as ensure that child safeguarding guidelines and principles are in place;
Promote team building and contribute to a respective and positive working environment;
Identify training and capacity building opportunities for protection staff and ensure that all protection staff are conversant with protection concepts, ZOA's code of conduct, humanitarian principles, accountability, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse;
In coordination with supervisor, liaise with governmental officials, international and national organization and camp structures on ZOA’s behalf;
Attend and contribute to relevant coordination mechanisms if relevant;
Ensure appropriate financial reporting on all project activities, in cooperation with the Project Manager and ZOA finance and administration staff;
Compile and provide weekly and monthly reporting on all protection activities and on project implementation progress. This includes submitting weekly and monthly report to the M&E and to external partners. Contribute to donor report;
Provide ongoing general monitoring of the operating context to ensure relevance and accountability to ZOA's beneficiary populations;
Maintain accurate and comprehensive files of project activities, outputs, materials, and other relevant documentation.

2. Allowances
Transportation allowance: ETB 1,500 for our programme field office staff, & ETB 2,000 for our country office staff per month.
Airtime Allowance: We provide data and airtime to enable you to conduct your work outside of the office.
we provide a closed user group so you can speak to your colleagues at no cost.
Food Allowance: we provide lunch daily at our offices, ZOA pays 600 ETB per month and staff contribute 400 ETB per month.
Severance payment: one month’s salary for an extra service year.
Hardship Allowance: If you are working in identified places as a remote and hazardous by the government, you will be entitled 20-40% additional allowances of their basic salary. Therefore, we provide 40% hardship allowance to ZOA employees working in Gambella, Dollo Ado and Shire field offices.
Transfer Allowance: We provide transfer allowance of 10,000 ETB If, in case of you permanently shift or transfer to a new programme area.
3. Paid Leave

Annual Leave: 20 days of annual leave in addition to public holidays, and you are also granted one extra day for each extra full year.
Enhanced Maternity Leave provision, 4 months
Paternity Leave 5 working days.
Rest and Recuperation (R&R): We provide you 5 working days for every consecutive 12 weeks of work R&R leave to unaccompanied staff who work away from their permanent place of residence to spend time with their family. Therefore, ZOA provides R&R leave for its employees who work in the program offices in Somali, Gambela, and Tigray regions.

Provident Fund + Pension: : 32% (22% from ZOA and 10% from You.
Life insurance
Medical Insurance: We also covers your dependents, and your medical expenditures are covered by ZOA up to 100% of each invoice, up to a defined maximum refunded amount of Br 200,000 ETB per annum.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution
Minimum 3 years of experience in a protection role for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or local authority.
Technical expertise and experience in child protection, including case management
Experience in project management
Strong inter personal skills and Staff management skills
Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies and procedures
Full proficiency in Microsoft Office package
Strong planning, organization and problem solving skills with ability to work both independently and within a team in a demanding work environment
Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure
Experience of working in emergency and refugee camp setting
A sensitive approach to external representation
Excellent proficiency in written and spoken Amharic and English. Local language is an advantage
