ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Orbis International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works in developing countries to save sight worldwide. Orbis prevents and treats blindness through hands-on training, public health education, improved access to quality eye care, and partnerships with local health care organizations in an effort to eliminate avoidable blindness. Orbis International-Ethiopia (License no. 1063) is a legally registered country office of this organization carrying out the same mission in Ethiopia since 1998.
JOB SUMMARY
The Driver/Mechanic is expected to provide partly driving, and assisting the Logistics & Transport Coordinator, in monitoring and supervising vehicle maintenance, vehicle booking and other fleet activities. He/she assists his supervisor in the following up of post office box, returned spares from garages. He/she will also be engaged in dispatching and messenger service in main office to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the office support of the respective project. Most importantly, he provides remote technical services to other drivers as and when the vehicle sustains technical failure or needs intervention. He/she is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing, Orbis vehicles. His/her duties will include monitoring inventory, inspecting vehicles and assembly of vehicles. If it is repaired in the external garage, he/she would propose which part shall be changed, and which are not in consultation with his supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Orbis International Ethiopia Logistics and Transport Coordinator, the Driver/Mechanic will have the following specific duties and responsibilities:
Driving and Logistics Support Responsibilities
Drive the vehicle he/she is assigned with maximum safety and care, and accordingly to traffic regulations, and in compliance with organizational policy
Register every trip and maintain accurate mileage logs each trip taken consistently as directed by the organization;
Ensure assigned vehicle is properly serviced, washed and greased as required before and after each trip
Conduct daily vehicles checks and maintenances and make the vehicle ready regularly. Vehicle shall be checkup before departing for field trip;
Keep records for regular maintenance and service of the vehicle;
Make sure that the vehicles are in good state constantly, with special emphasis on
Respect the country's traffic rules and regulations;
Report any involvement in road accident immediately to the supervisor and concerned authorities and obtain relevant documents from Traffic Police, Local Administration etc. and submit same for timely insurance claim and/or any relevant action.
Identify the problem (if any) and maintain the vehicle as required otherwise report the problem for further repair by outside service provider;
Deliver messages/dispatches to and from the office and effect payments for settlement of small bills as instructed by the supervisor;
Assisting the Logistics & Transport Coordinator by keeping complete records of assigned vehicles for the field office on a separate file;
Assist the Logistics & Transport Coordinator in routine matters like running messages;
Collect bank statement and cash transfer advice from bank
Provide any other office assistant services whenever available;
Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Vehicle Maintenance & Servicing
Inspect vehicles coming from field offices for maintenances and decide the servicing or/maintenances type and work with the garage for proper maintenance
Design mechanism for the reduction of servicing cost
Conduct monthly checks of all vehicle and keep each vehicle history
Follow-up the garage and verify the repair and maintenance work is done as per the order
Liaise with the Workshop to ensure that appropriate maintenance and repair works are done,
Propose vehicle preventive maintenances, and conduct regular vehicle checks to ensure service schedules are adhered to
Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle users.
Perform vehicle assessments and alert clients on issues that will prohibit their vehicles from passing inspection.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Diploma/Certificate in Auto mechanic after completing 12th /10th grades,
possess Minimum 3rd grade driving license;
Minimum 5 years of vehicle driving and practical experience in giving assistance at field level with safety first and safe driving habits; and proven experience in vehicle maintenance and servicing.
Strong attention to details, with excellent communication and customer service skills
Physically and mentally fit
Have solid knowledge of basic maintenance’s tools, services, diagnostic equipment
