Job Description
I. Project Background
The USAID Integrated Youth Activity - Kefeta, is a five-year, 60 million dollar program implemented by the lead partner, Amref Health Africa and its consortium partners. Kefeta takes a holistic approach to support economic and social opportunities for youth in Ethiopia, by focusing on democracy and good governance, basic education, higher education, economic empowerment and sexual reproductive health in its program activities.
Kefeta will benefit the lives of at least 2 million Ethiopian youth in 18 cities over a period of five years, with an overall objective of empowering Ethiopian youth to advance their own economic, civic, and social development. Kefeta plans to achieve this objective by first laying the foundational work of forming youth coalitions and networks and by establishing a youth-led Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF). The Kefeta overall objective will be realized by working toward the following goals:

II. Objectives:
Media plays a vital role in positive youth development processes. In formative assessment that Kefeta conducted, youths have access to both mainstream and social media outlets. It is important that Kefeta engages its target populations with social media. Appropriate use of the social media would allow a large number of youths with Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) interventions to be reached.
In addition, having a social media presence will also support Kefeta’s knowledge and information sharing efforts. Social media will act as a communication tool that will support campaign efforts, coverage of happenings of learning events.
For this assignment social media will be used:
1. To engage youth in social media content to bring about positive changes in young people’s mindsets, and enable them to utilize educational, health and other social services
2. Share news and update about Kefeta’s specific cause/event/activity
3. Promote public understanding of, and support for, Kefeta by ensuring public awareness of USAID’s investment and provide information in this regard
Audiences: The primary audiences for Kefeta’s social media efforts are Youths, GOE, Partner organizations, stakeholders in Ethiopian Youth and the public in general

III. SCOPE OF WORK
The overall task of the social media officer is to enable the development of strong and vibrant discussions on Kefeta’s social media platforms.
In this assignment, the social media officer will be managing the Telegram, Facebook and Youtube contents for Kefeta by uploading user-generated content and ensuring the safety and privacy of online platforms.
The social media officer will also reply to user questions and comments on social media posts. They can also provide protection from inappropriate content and harassment on social media pages.
Specifically, the consultant will be responsible for:
- Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars for the social media contents
- Upload content such as infographics, short videos and texts on social media outlets
- Support the creation of compelling content to share across social channels
- Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
- Organize live and online event on Telegram and/or Facebook
- Respond to questions, comments and messages on social media platforms
- Develop new strategies for increasing engagement
- Assist with photo/video content generations
- Ensure the messaging is consistent across social media platforms
Qualifications and Criteria
- At least 2 years of experience in Social Media content production and management
- Knowledge of social media facilitation and content moderation skills
- Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Telegram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and other social media best practices
- Understanding of web traffic metrics
- Excellent multitasking skills
- Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
- Team player
- Good time-management skills
- Great interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
- BSc degree in Communications, IT, Marketing or relevant field
Timeline and Level of Effort (LOE)
This contract will initially be for the six months. The consultant engagement will for three days a week (20 hours per week).
