Job Description

The Project Officer (PO) is reporting to the Project Manager at the CACH field office Borena. The person selected will be the reference and the representative of the Project in the field, monitor and supervise the respective activities at the same time as they go about their implementation in order to guarantee that the objectives are met in line with the policies and strategies of CACH. The PO will also be a point of contact for project activities with implementing partners at project sites, and field level. At the same time, the PC constantly monitors the context of the project area in order to propose adaptations to the project, propose new interventions, and react to emergencies. The PO must be ready to undertake frequent field trips to project sites.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage the Green Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (Green REAP) in Borana, Ethiopia at the woreda and kebele level under the supervision of the Project Manager. CACHs project helps low-income women/youth and the extreme poor to start green enterprises to uplift their living standards,

  • Provide mentoring to the agreed number of small enterprises on a monthly basis for an 18–20-month graduation cycle.

  • In a collaborative process with the community (Participatory Wealth Ranking) and local committees and government representatives target and identify eligible women/youth and extreme poor for the program, based on the Project’s criteria

  • Meet with established business groups, help them make decisions about their business and offer other guidance as needed,

  • Conduct business and savings trainings in the locations they represent.

  • Survey individuals and collect data on living standards, participation in savings groups, and other relevant information.

  • Represent the project at kebele and woreda level and report activities to the Project Manager.

  • Report on the businesses and savings groups’ performances to the Project Manager.

  • Provide accurate and comprehensive monthly reports to the Project Manager based on the project’s monthly report template

  • Assess and strengthen the effectiveness of the Project and its implementation

  • Use Performance Insights, a Technology Platform to Monitor and Improve Program results.

  • Adhere to weekly work schedule assigned by the Project Manager.

  • Perform a minimum of agreed visits per week to the business groups and savings groups for which you are responsible and upload all data collected on daily basis.

Other related activities

  • Work on the analysis of collected real time data and coordinate communication and facilitate information sharing among the project team, implementing partners, and project beneficiaries at the community level to assist local partners in strengthening the community interest, involvement and support networks.

  • Liaise with various community stakeholders and mobilize them to ensure full involvement of community leaders, community representatives, and local government representatives in the overall implementation and improvement of project activities.

  • In coordination with the project team, support capacity building events for government stakeholders and project staffs.

Duty stations will be Yabello field office, Teltele, and Arero field offices with frequent field visits to project sites and partner organizations.

Job Requirements

Qualification

The ideal candidate represents the majority of the below mentioned areas:

  • At least a degree in natural resource management, forest management, development and social sciences, project management, economics or any other relevant field.

  • Education in natural resource management/ forest management is an asset.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position in Southern Ethiopia, ideally in Borana.

  • Experience in relevant working areas with other international organizations in Ethiopia; work experience with relevant donor organizations is an asset.

  • Knowledge in participatory approaches, problem resolving capacity and very strong reporting and communication/writing skills.

  • Excellent command of English, both in writing and spoken is mandatory; a good knowledge of Oromiffa is a strong asset.

  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate field activities

  • Possession of self-drive, ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Good report writing and computer skills.
