Duties and Responsibilities of the Position Holder

The position is responsible to oversee implementation of livelihoods facilitate exchange of information compilation data and reports, provision of technical training to beneficiaries and local government staffs. In consultation with the team leader and other officer’s review project work plans and activity budget for better response for the need of the project.

  • Responsible for the overall implementation of livelihood and capacity building extension component activities.

  • Responsible to ensure that the project meets its defined objectives and achieve set targets.

  • Develop a weekly and monthly detail work plan to implement the major activities of the livelihood activities in the selected kebeles.

  • Design livelihood activities for the economic benefit of drought affected pastoralists in proposed intervention kebeles.

  • Lead assessment process, including planning and reporting to determine livelihood needs and respond them with the project budget line.

  • Collect information related to livelihood improvement activities in the project intervention areas including actors, services and resources available.

  • Conduct regular field visits to verify quality /progress/ of livelihood intervention provide technical guidance and advice.

  • Responsible for planning and executing and monitoring and evaluation of the component.

  • Planning and executing effective strategies with community for ensuring their livelihoods, food security and enterprise development.

  • Carry out awareness raising on the secure pastoralist livelihoods program activities.

  • Ensure high quality and innovation in the livelihood component of the project.

  • Establish livelihood committees as deemed necessary and carry out community mobilization process.

  • Train and educate the livelihood subgroups in the target community about the entire livelihood component, roles and responsibilities of the subgroup and the expected achievement.

  • Organize technical (value addition, market etc.) and enterprise development trainings in collaboration with suitable institutions.

  • Develop linkages with relevant stakeholders and evolve their participation with effective use of relevant community based participatory tools. 

  • Ensure beneficiary capacity building as part of livelihood intervention.

  • Ensure strong coordination with partners and other stakeholders on assessment, project /program/design, implementation and the implementation of the livelihood project.

  • Be responsible to carry out community training on sector specific issues and community awareness raising through community meetings.

  • Follow procedure as outlined in LWF World Service Ethiopia Staff Rules, Collective Agreement and other Operation Manuals.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned to him by the Regional Projects Coordinator or his designate.

Job Requirements

Required Qualification and Work Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in rural development, economics, agronomy, plant science or other relevant disciplines from recognized University/College. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience for bachelor's degree and 1 year for master’s degree.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of three years relevant experience preferable in gender issues

Additional requirements

  • Strong communication skill in English (written and oral). Excellent written and oral English Language skills,

  • Ability to interact with people

  • Strong knowledge and experience working in livelihoods

  • Deep knowledge in rural communities and livelihood opportunities in the rural areas,

  • Good skills in reporting and monitoring

  • Other job-related trainings

  • Previous related experience in NGO and refugee set up is advantageous
