Duration of contract: Indefinite based on performance and availability of funds

We are looking for a Market Based Sanitation financing (Economic strengthening) Advisor to drive and enable growth in the WASH market by prototyping testing and introducing financing models that supplement consumers’ ability to pay at market prices and support WASH business finance requirements for operation and expansion.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee WASH financing landscaping, including analysis of financial needs for businesses and consumers throughout the project to identify barriers and opportunities for finance and provide recommendations that could potentially strengthen access to finance for WASH businesses and consumers.
Lead the development and adaptation of sustainable financing approaches that can increase access to financial services (loan and savings) for business consumers, layout loan product offerings, loan fund source, terms and conditions, and public and private finance partners.
Assess needs, opportunities, gaps, and constraints for accessing finance for suppliers, local WASH businesses, and households
Design and Test different sanitation financing products through formal financing mechanisms (Banks, MFIs, SACCOs) informal financing mechanisms and CSOs (VSLA, Iquibs, Idirs).
Develop agreements and MOUs to foster partnerships with financing institutions, foster capacity building, and institutionalization of tested financing initiatives and loan products
Support advocacy efforts for sanitation loan access and sanitation fund avail learning and evidence on the scale of the financial need and experience on test of sanitation financing initiatives.
Contribute to the development of metrics and establishment of a monitoring and evaluation framework for tracking project progress, specifically tracking financing-related activities.
Engage with relevant government/local partners and financing institutes to effectively foster sanitation financing initiatives that benefit sanitation businesses and households
Review and analyze monitoring level data to improve management and decision-making and to adapt and optimize financing initiatives under implementation.
Provide regular, concise reporting on program activities, including documents and sharing key learning on the potential to scale.
Generic Duties of the Position:
Develop and implement annual objectives and plans.
Monitor and ensure the proper utilization of the allocated departmental budget.
Support the development of team members through coaching, mentoring, and ongoing feedback.
Represent the Organization in external relationships related to the Department.
Participate in group decision-making processes by forming part of different groups/committees.
Qualification and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or above in Economics, Rural Development, Agriculture, Development studies, and other related fields with at least 5 years of relevant experience
A demonstrated experience in the Financing sector and economic strengthening activity and technical know-how of the financing sector and policy environment of Ethiopia is essential.
Proficient in English and Amharic languages, both written and verbal communication
Must demonstrate mastery of computer skills in word processing, Excel for budget and spreadsheet work, and excellent presentation skills. Skills in data processing will be an advantage.
Must demonstrate strong interest and commitment to WASH and specifically to Market-based sanitation
Ability to work with minimum supervision, and skills to promote teamwork and effort is essential. Experience in practical fieldwork and prior supervisory position will be an advantage.
Ability and willingness to travel to project activity regions and woredas as per need is required
