SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools is looking for qualified, experienced and dynamic individuals to fill the vacant position Performing  Visual Arts Teacher who is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Academic policies of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School.

Your role....

As a Performing  Visual Arts Teacher you will be in charge of the following:

Ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time;

  • Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed;

  • Setting tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest;

  • Setting appropriate and demanding expectations;

  • Setting clear targets, building on prior attainment;

  • Providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge;

  • Making effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of programmes of study;

  • Mark and monitor pupils' work and set targets for progress;

  • Assess and record pupils' progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise the level at which the pupil is achieving;

  • Undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures;

  • Prepare and present informative reports to parents.

The must haves:

Education

  • Diploma or above in Performing Visual Art

Experience

  • At least 4 years of work experience for Diploma/no experience Degree and above education levels.

  • Ability to interact positively with staff and students and understand their information needs.

  • Willingness to use / train in new technologies.

  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to cope with change.

  • Skills and experience in using ICT.

  • Accuracy, neatness and a methodical approach to clerical work.

  • Excellent communication skills.
