TOR for Project Driver

The driver position and he/she shall work under the supervision of the (Chief Technical Advisor) CTA/deputy CTA (GOPA Team Leader).  His/her duty station is Semera – Afar Region.

 Job Summary

Under the supervision of the CTA/deputy CTA (Team Leader), the Project driver efficiently and effectively perform the activities which are given specifically to him/her. He/she should travel to the field with other professionals giving priority to safety, security, commitment to work in harsh conditions and timely respond where it needs his intervention.  The nature of the job implies a lot of commitment and flexibility in the time of work. The driver will be assigned a car only, unless decided otherwise at a specific time.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide transportation service for project staff and project related activities
• Be responsible for safety, security and care of the vehicle and for ensuring that proper vehicle management is followed.
• Undertake weekly/monthly checks, submitting the reports to its immediate supervisor in timely manner.
• Report all vehicle defects, maintenance needs, accident damage etc. to its immediate supervisor and CTA. The weekly/monthly vehicle reports should also be used for this purpose.
• Strictly make supervision when the vehicle is in the garage for maintenance
• Follow the following procedure whenever accident occurs:
  • Timely report to the immediate supervisor when accident occurs
  • Get police report on the accident
  • Prepare reports to the insurance company
• Complete and sign the daily logbook whenever the vehicle is used.
• Ensure that the vehicle  has fuel , checked and available in good condition for planned activities.
• Attend at the office by 07:00 a.m. to check the vehicle and eensure that the vehicle is parked on or before 6:30 P.M (unless instructed differently) in the office compound or where the CTA instructed to park.
• Strictly follow and respect the following driving rules and regulations of the company:
  • Not use a mobile phone while driving.
  • Not smoke in the vehicle.
  • Be responsible for payment of fines for mistakes committed while driving.
• Responsible for efficient and effect utilization of fuel and lubricant 
• Deliver letters and other message to different offices
• Execute other activities given by immediate supervisor

Qualification and skills required:

• Completion of high school,
• Third grade driving license
• 10 years’ experience in driving field vehicle.
• Knowledge of English language
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

Preferred skills:

• Knowledge of local languages of Afar and Somali.
