Duties and Key Responsibilities

He/she shall:

  • Prepare/review designs of an irrigation system that will give the most excellent result to an area.

  • Closely supervise the construction activities to ensure that the construction is done as per the specification.

  • Ensure timely completion of the construction activities.

  • Take measurement and prepare payment for the contractor

  • Teaches the targeted users regarding the various types of irrigation system that are available, and this would include gravity and drip systems.

  • Devises and creates analyzed information for their targeted users that would refer to the different systems.

  • Troubleshoot problems that may come up during installation of irrigation system and during usage.

  • Keeps all the designs he/she made for the farmers in their specific places in a record. They utilize programs and computer software to create plans and detailed blueprints of the procedures for installation. They will also have to explain the impact of having this irrigation system.

  • Makes touring and inspecting sites and establishing demonstration sites

  • Makes troubleshooting and advising clients on correct operation of systems

  • Tests designs and recommended changes

  • Takes measurements and recording data and observations

  • Installs and tests monitoring equipment

  • Do paperwork, analyzing data, and prepare reports

  • Drafts construction plans and design computerized management plans

  • Makes Planning projects, administering and managing budgets

  • Communicates and meets with target users, stakeholders, and government departments and presents to designs, ideas, and recommendations

  • Make a research and collect background information and consult with other supervisors and professionals

Job Requirements

Required qualification and Work Experiance:  

  • MSc. or BSc. Degree in Water Resource and Irrigation Engineering, Hydraulic and Water Resource Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Construction Management and related field from recognized University

  • Minimum of 3-year relevant experience for MSc. Degree and 5 years for BSc. Degree

  • Minimum of 1 year experience on supervision/construction of weir structure.

 Key competencies:

  • Knowledgeable on something about fluid mechanics that would help in designing irrigation systems.

  • Excellent written and oral English Language skills required

  • Previous related experience in NGO setup including enough knowledge of CAD applications is an advantage

  • Relevant on job trainings are advantageous.
