Job Description

Project: Integrated Youth Activity

Reports to: Youth Inclusion and Engagement Director

The position holder shall oversee the design, implementation, technical quality and delivery of mental health services for the youth in the Kefeta service delivery points (SDPs) in 18 cities. She/He will mainly be responsible for the coordination of the day-to-day implementation of the mental health and trauma care services under the team, support social and behavior change efforts on mental health, provide mental health consultation for Mental Health Care workers, and enhance referral and follow-up system of clients under Mental Health Care/need in the SDPs. In addition, the position holder is also expected to provide supervision, technical assistance and capacity building to Youth Friendly Service providing staffs under each CSO and health care providers in targeted health facilities.  She/He will be responsible for supporting the daily implementation of YFHS services package as per the standard, supporting health facilities assigned as integrated mobile health & YFS delivery sites.  She/He will also be responsible for ensuring integration of mental health services into other Kefeta Youth Friendly Service packages and minimum standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Youth Inclusion and Engagement Director with the integration of mental health and psychosocial support into general health care.

  • Develop mental health intervention strategy for adolescents and youth and ensure is implementation in the target cities.

  • Design training tools, SOPs, guidelines and flowcharts that will help to provide training and technical support for field level service providers.

  • Develop culturally appropriate psychosocial activities, including social support activities. These includes, but not limited to training in psychological first aid, designing holistic recreational, trauma counseling, and social activities; development of material for awareness campaigns; as feasible and appropriate to Kefeta mental health intervention approach.

  • Provide TA to site level service providers to carry out proper counseling services for those mentally ill clients who need counseling and psychotherapy according to the type of illness and age category.

  • Strengthen the community-facility referral system in all service delivery sites with more emphasis to the post-conflict affected areas with more prevalent mental health issues.

  • Develop or adopt relevant guidelines on mental health and psychosocial support and monitor the utilization in the field.

  • Support the efforts towards organizing site level public awareness and de-stigmatization campaigns around mental health issues with support from local staff including IDPs

  • Provide oversight, direct and supervise mental health related activities of IYA-Kefeta and closely work with all the providers in each service delivery outlets.

  • Coordinate/ensure activities with relevant Government Authorities, International and National Organizations, including standardized reporting practices.

  • Work collaboratively with other agencies, local and international and with relevant government bodies to enhance collaboration and advance bi-directional referrals.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between IYA-Kefeta and local partners involved in mental health or psychosocial activities. Represent IYA-Kefeta in coordination meetings when necessary and assigned by the supervisor.

  • Work closely with other mental health and psychosocial staff, YFS advisor, M&E team, GESI advisor and other program leads with in the Kefeta consortium to ensure coordinated activities

  • Collaborate with community and existing institutional structures to ensure protection of those suffering mental illness

  • Compile information and prepare regular written reports as per the M&E framework and plan.

  • Implement other activities as per the direction of the Youth Inclusion and Engagement Director

Job Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in psychiatry, psychology, Doctor of Medicine or related field with at least 5 years of counseling and social work experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Psychiatry or related field with at least 7 years of counseling and social work experience

    3 years of mental health and psychosocial pragmatic experience.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of mental health and psychosocial programming in the humanitarian context essentials.

  • Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings

  • Training experience required on mhGAP

  • Proven counseling and inter-personal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills.

  • Strong writing and reporting skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments

  • Honest, hardworking, and self-motivated person.

  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources

  • Ability to travel on short notice to project sites by car or air and spend at least 35%-45% LOE in the field providing site level support

  • Excellent English verbal and written skills

  • Computer skills: word, excel, and project mana
