Cambridge Academy Ethiopia is an international school in its third year of operation in the beautiful Ethiopian city of Addis Ababa. The school aims to provide students with an international experience that is unique, not just in Addis Ababa but across Ethiopia. We draw upon the best aspects of the British curriculum and blend it with modern, theme-based, experiential learning all whilst meeting our local community needs. The school opened relatively recently and has grown into a well-established international school with 700 students. Job Summary
The Facilities and Operations Manager is critical to the successful management and maintenance of Cambridge Academy Ethiopia is seeking to appoint a Facilities and Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the maintenance of all school buildings and staff residences, including cleaning services, preventative maintenance, and landscaping. The role-holder will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations at the school; ensuring that the operational functions of the school are effectively supporting the academic teams and the learners. The role holder will oversee ensuring the school is a safe and healthy place to learn and work. Applicants should have held similar positions in successful, high caliber organizations where health and safety is a paramount concern. The successful candidate will be a diligent individual who has good levels of English.
Job Description
The Facilities and Operations Manager is critical to the successful management and maintenance of Cambridge Academy Ethiopia. The role-holder is responsible for managing the maintenance of all school buildings and staff residences, including cleaning services, preventative maintenance, and landscaping. This position is responsible for managing the mechanical and maintenance team (Facilities Department). The role-holder is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations at the school; ensuring that the operational functions of the school are effectively supporting the academic teams and the learners. The role holder will oversee ensuring the school is a safe and healthy place to learn and work.
The role has managerial oversight of:
Health and safety
Fire safety
Cleaning and pest control
Maintenance
HVAC
MEP
General maintenance
Accommodation
Security
Transport
Food & Beverage
Responsibilities
Oversee the physical infrastructure, including the residential properties
Maintain facilities and cleaning services
Ensure the health and safety of the campus and residential properties
Comply with all school policies, procedures and quality standards as well as safety and environmental regulations
Ensure facilities are in good repair and provide a safe environment
Maintain effective safety program for all members of facilities; complete all safety checks on equipment systems
Coordinate and schedule all maintenance, cleaning requests, and work orders
Supervise and train cleaning staff, mechanic and maintenance team; evaluate workloads and reassign job functions for more efficient operation
Ensure compliance with government health and safety standards; keep records of all permits and licenses
Oversee all third-party vendors
Manage the fire, safety, and security systems
Respond quickly to emergency problems and be on-call 24/7 to meet with vendors, repairmen or suppliers, when necessary
Purchase all facilities cleaning and operation supplies and materials
Solicit, review, and negotiate bids for repairs, operations and projects
Maintain inventory of tools and supplies for custodial, maintenance, and emergency preparedness
Work with the Head of School in the management of construction, renovation, and maintenance operations and projects
Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties related to the school
Clean, service, and maintain school vehicles and ensure they are in safe operating condition for the transportation of students, materials, merchandise and equipment
Evaluate facilities and operations staff performance
Maintain owner manuals/information, asset lists, schedules and maintenance records
Coordinate move/relocation with IT and other related parties, as required
Perform other duties as requested by the Head of School

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 5 years experience of successful facilities and operations management experience
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple projects
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the school
A recognized health and safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH or similar)
Good English language – written and spoken
